Korina Sanchez on the best source of news: "Parang it’s still… television. Because television has a hierarchy of accountability. So in television, if you get in trouble, you can get sued. You know who the owner of the platform is. You can run after them. There’s a check and balance. In law. Online, it’s still a work in progress. So the best source I think still is articles with a byline.”

JERRY OLEA

“I was following the drug trail,” pagbabalik-tanaw ni Korina noong Hunyo 6, 2025, Biyernes, sa Bahay Na Puti sa P. Tuazon Blvd., Cubao, Quezon City.

“Saan galing ang source? Walang gustong gumawa. Napunta ako sa Ozamiz. Kuratong Baleleng.

“I remember, ako ang pina-stop ng management. Ako ang pina-stop. Kasi parang masyadong delikado.

“E, during those days, parang they give all those assignments to the boys.

“Tapos sabi niya, ‘Oy! I’m from Ozamiz!’ Sabi ko, ‘Oh! Kurating-Baleleng!’ ‘You know, Miss K,’ sabi niyang ganon, ‘You know, Miss K, I am proud to say that the founder of Kuratong-Baleleng is my grandfather!’

“Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

He said this on air, ha?!”

“Ano kami noon, e, V. Mapa. Aabot ako ng ano, E. Rodriguez! Ang layo nun! Ang layo nun, nilalakad ko lang. Ganun.

Buko!

“Tuwang-tuwa ako noon! Feeling ko, freedom. Naku, kung saan-saan ako nakakarating!

“Ang layo nun, di ba? Sta. Mesa, e. Sta. Mesa, V. Mapa, tapos aabot ako ng E. Rodriguez. Dadaan ako pa-Araneta Avenue.

“Pag walang ginagawa. Kung hindi naman, aakyat ako ng bubong. Doon ko dadalhin yung meryenda ko.

“Yung katabi namin, squatter’s area.

“You know, unless Meta itself self-regulates the information that goes on online, there’s nothing you can do about it,” pagmamatuwid ni Korina Sanchez-Roxas.

“AI na lang, di ba? May nakita ako, sumasayaw ako ng BINI, e… mukhang tunay.

“Wala kang magagawa. I think, unless something really, really catastrophic happens, there's not going to be any regulation.

Yung fact-checking component nila, tinanggal nila.

“So, all you can do is to police yourself and to make sure that the news that you consume, you have all sides to it. You double-check.

“Pag chineck mo, ‘Ay! Hindi pala.’ Hindi pala, di ba?

“So I guess parang ano, parang it’s still… the best source to look at, for me, ha — television.

“Because television has a hierarchy of accountability. So in television, if you get in trouble, you can get sued.

“You know who the owner of the platform is. You can run after them. There’s a check and balance. In law.

“Online, it’s still a work in progress. So the best source I think still is articles with a byline.”

STRUCTURE OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Ang mga mapagkakatiwalaang personalidad na katulad niya…

“Yeah, but you don’t know when I’m going to turn weird, right?” sambit ni Korina.

“It’s still, I mean, if it were my own vlog, medyo alam mo nang editorialized na yan, right?

“Kasi walang accountability. Walang structure of accountability.

“But if you listen to me in ABS-CBN then, or in say Agenda today, Bilyonaryo [TV], I have bosses. Merong structure, merong may-ari ng platform to keep you in check.

“Somebody lost her job because nagkamali ng facts in my place of work.

“So I think that’s the best way because journalists of before were trained like that. Yung talagang pinag-aralan ang journalism.

“Which is not to say, yung hindi nag-aral ng journalism ay hindi tama ang sinasabi.

“Yung training lang talaga ng accountability. And parang making a distinction between opinion and fact.

“Very recently on TV5, we had a debate. Mainstream journalism versus vloggers.”

“It's bothersome if it is a lie. It is bothersome if it is made up, right?” paliwanag ni Korina.

“Or if it is presented as fact when it is unchecked information, unverified. Or if it is opinion passed on as fact.”

FAKE NEWS PEDDLERS

Merong radio and TV broadcasting station na sinasabing fake news peddler, di ba?

“This is the argument.

May media bias, and then, so may ganyan, di ba?

“O, anong mga interes ang pinoprotektahan ng may-ari ng platform na yan, that’s why it’s so important to know who owns the platform.

“Pero at least, yung nakikinig, if you are discerning, you know.

“Pero all other news, you know na more likely than not, kasi puwede kang ihabla, e. Puwede kang ihabla because there’s an entity that you can actually make accountable.

“Pero isa pang napag-aralan ko in my Masters in Communication na muntik na akong mag-drop out dahil hindi ko maintindihan.

Precisely para I can catch up on the culture, on the changing culture.

“Parang, is there really such a thing now as really raw truth?

“Because truth now can also be subjective.

“Is there such a thing now as unbiased presentation of a story? Because if you’re choosing between a clear evil and a clear good, wouldn't you side with the good?

“Siyempre yung presentation mo, naka-tweak towards the good, right? Kunwari merong isang mamamatay-tao. Isang pinatay. In cold blood.

“Talaga ba, uupo ka ng isang oras with the mind of a murderer? And try to justify what his murderer deed.

“So that’s what we’re trying to say na it can’t totally be balanced. Especially if it’s between good and evil.

“Not in all cases, but you know.

NEW SOURCES OF NEWS

Tiktok!

“Sabi niya, ‘I'm just fascinated with how they're able to tweak the story, the narrative to their advantage, and they’re succeeding.’

KORINA ADMITS PAST RELATIONSHIP WITH PNOY

Napamulagat si Korina: “Ako, meron ba? Fake news about me? Ahhhh! Parang may anak daw ako kay Ping Lacson?! Ano ba?!

“Hindi ba, may ganoon? May ganoon ako dati, ha? Dati.

“Totoo naman iyon… it was so short-lived. Parang we were together for eight months. That’s my shortest ever.

“Kasi ako, pag nagkarelasyon, five years, seven years. Ganoon. Eight months, e, anak ng Presidente. Andaming option.

“Ha! Ha! Ha! Di ba? Saka hindi na kami nagkikita. Yun ang ano noon, e.”
