Sa Oktubre 3, 2025 na mag-uumpisa ang 21st Cinemalaya filmfest, sa halip na Agosto. Hindi na sa Ayala Malls Manila Bay ang main venue nito.
At tuloy rin ang 22nd edition ng Cinemalaya sa 2026!
Inihayag ito ni FDCP Chairperson Jose Javier Reyes aka Direk Joey sa mediacon ng 3rd Parangal ng Sining nitong Marso 28, Biyernes, sa Seda Vertis North hotel, Quezon City.

“May mga pagkakaiba lang na magaganap. Pero tuloy yan!” bulalas ng multi-awarded scriptwriter-director.
“At bilang sa FDCP, ito, I’m answering personally — hindi namin hahayaang mamatay ang Cinemalaya, OK.
“Kasi from Cinemalaya came Dan Villegas, Antoinette Jadaone, you know, all the important new directors. You cannot possibly let it die.”
Ano ang reaksiyon ng mga direktor ng feature-length films ng Cinemalaya 2025 ngayong nalipat sa Oktubre ang filmfest, sa halip na sa nakagawiang Agosto?
“Sila rin ang nag-request,” pagtatapat ni Direk Joey.
“Imposible nilang matapos ng August. Imposible nilang matapos ng August!
“May dalawa na alam ko na tapos na. Na-late yung release ng tranches, e. So, nahirapan sila. So, tama lang na October.”
May pribadong sektor na tumulong sa Cinemalaya.
“Nakaka-touch na andaming naniniwala sa kahalagahan ng Cinemalaya,” sambit ni Direk Joey.
DIREK JOEY: "I WILL NOT ALLOW CINEMALAYA TO DIE"
Ano ba ang personal relationship o attachment niya sa Cinemalaya?
“Siyempre naman, I’ve been with Cinemalaya for yeaaarrrsss, OK. For years,” tugon ni Direk Joey.
“First as part of the Selection Committee, and then eventually becoming the head of the Monitoring and Competition [Committee] when Mel Chionglo left, hindi ba?
“My heart is with Cinemalaya. I started with the Selection Committee ng short films of students and all the way up to that position.
“Tapos one of the most painful things I had to give up when I became chairman of FDCP. I had to give it up.
“So I will really fight toe and nail to keep it. And it’s just because of this personal attachment but because of its importance and my respect for the institution, di ba?
“And that’s why FDCP will always be supportive of Cinemalaya in our limited capacity, OK.
“Because this is a partnership of the Cinemalaya Foundation and the Cultural Center of the Philippines [CCP] which is another government agency.
“Our level of intervention, our level of participation is only limited to what is allowed, OK.
“But then in this critical moment — by the way, which I also understand because of the big slash in the budget of CCP, OK.
“And that slash in the budget was also brought about because of the renovation of CCP.
“Di ba, dati, 2025 makakabalik na tayo? Now it’s 2027 na! Kasi habang inuungkat nila yung CCP, they found out na andaming damage which created cost, na nawala para sa mga programs ng CCP.
“So I understand. But we will still not allow Cinemalaya to die! We will still not allow Cinemalaya to die.
“I personally will not allow it to die, and FDCP as an institution will always be supportive of it.”

Ang unang pelikulang Pinoy na box-office hit for 2025 ay ang My Love Will Make You Disappear na bida sina Kim Chiu at Paulo Avelino.
Ayon sa producer na Star Cinema, PHP12M ang first day gross ng KimPau movie noong Marso 26, Miyerkules.
“Good! Any movie that makes money is a ray of light in a vast forest of darkness!” reaksiyon ni FDCP Chairperson Jose Javier Reyes.
“Any movie, OK. Any movie that makes money is a ray of light. And maybe the other producers can also learn from what succeeds along the way.
“I mean for the first time nga, after so long, may kumita, di ba? Dapat diyan, i-celebrate yan together with Alex Eala, OK.
“We have to celebrate these moments and learn from it. At siguro ang isa pa ring dapat nating matutunan is that alam natin na we just cannot limit our audiences to Philippines.
“We have to globalize the kinds of products that we have.”
Simula Marso 28, Biyernes, ay showing na sa North America ang My Love Will Make You Disappear. Ipalalabas din ito sa iba’t iba pang bansa.

“Oo, oo. Importante na ano… you should not limit your world to your backyard,” saad ni Direk Joey.
“You must look at the field which is behind your backyard, which is the infinity of global audiences. Hindi ba?
“Saka grabe, di ba, yung Hello, Love, Again, No. 8 sa [North] American box-office? Ilang Pilipino ang nanood doon?! Ganun ka-powerful tayo!
“OK, that’s how Filipinos conquer the world. We will migrate and conquer the world, OK.
“So if we only learn how to you know, to show outside, we will make more money.”

“Ang Mga Higante ng Kasaysayan ng Ating Pelikula: Tradisyon at Ebolusyon” ang tema ng Parangal ng Sining 2025 na gaganapin sa Abril 11, Biyernes ng 5:00 P.M., sa Seda Vertis North, Diliman, Quezon City.
Apat ang tatanggap ng Lifetime Achievement Award — sina Joseph Ejercito Estrada, Charo Santos-Concio, Laurice Guillen, at Lav Diaz.
