Ipinagtanggol ni Joseph Morong ang kanyang kapwa GMA Integrated News reporter na si Mariz Umali sa pamamagitan ng kanyang X (Twitter) post ngayong Huwebes, Marso 20, 2025.
Sinisi ni Joseph ang taong nag-upload ng viral video na naging dahilan ng matinding pamba-bash ng netizens kay Mariz.
Mensahe ni Joseph (published as is): “Whoever recorded Mariz’ voice LIED.
"IT’S A LIE she called Sec that. She would never.
"Bakit andali n’yo maniwala sa kasinungalingan?”

Ang video — kung saan inaakusahan si Mariz na tinawag na "matanda" si Atty. Salvador Medialdea habang isinasakay ito sa ambulansya — ang pinag-ugatan ng mga pagbatikos sa GMA News anchor/reporter.
Kasalukuyang nasa The Netherlands si Mariz para tutukan at iulat ang mga kaganapan sa pagkakakulong ni dating Pangulo Rodrigo Duterte sa International Criminal Court (ICC) Detention Center sa Schevingen Prison, The Hague, dahil sa kasong crime against humanity.
Nagsilbi si Medialdea bilang executive secretary ni Duterte noong nakaupo pa ito bilang Pangulo ng Pilipinas.
Si Medialdea ang kasama ni Duterte nang arestuhin ito ng Interpol-Manila noong Marso 11, 2025, at dalhin sa The Hague para humarap sa ICC.
Noong Marso 18, nahimatay si Medialdea habang nasa ICC Detention Center para bisitahin si Duterte.
Nakunan ng video ang pagsasakay sa kanya sa ambulansya habang nakahiga sa stretcher.
Dito nag-umpisa ang mga batikos laban kay Mariz dahil sa paratang na tinawag niyang "matanda" ang dating executive secretary.

MARIZ UMALI DEFENDS HERSELF AGAINST FALSE ACCUSATION
Nilinaw at ipinagtanggol ni Mariz ang sarili.
Ayon sa kanyang Facebook post, "na-misheard" siya ng vlogger na nag-upload ng video.
Paglilinaw ni Mariz: “This interpretation is inaccurate.
"What I actually said was, ]Tingnan mo yung ‘mata niya’ (Medialdea), nakabukas siya nung una pero nung nakita niya ako, pinikit.
“It is obvious that I was misheard.
"I want to be clear that no disrespect was intended toward Former Executive Secretary Medialdea.
"I hope this clarification helps set the record straight."

NOT THE FIRST DUTERTE-RELATED INCIDENT
Ang insidenteng nangyari sa The Hague ay hindi unang pagkakataong nasangkot si Umali sa isang isyung may kinalaman si Duterte.
President-elect pa lamang si Duterte noong Mayo 31, 2016 nang makatanggap siya ng mga batikos dahil sa “catcalling” o pagsipol na ginawa niya kay Mariz habang nagtatanong ito sa kanya sa isang press conference sa Davao City.
Hindi ito nagustuhan ni Raffy Tima, asawa ni Mariz na news reporter din ng GMA-7, kaya naglabas siya ng pahayag tungkol sa kawalan umano ng respeto ni Duterte sa misis niya.
“Catcalling my wife is wrong in so many levels,” pahayag ni Tima sa Facebook post nito noon.
“I expected that from a Mayor Duterte. I know his reputation well enough not to be shocked by it, but that does not make it right.
"For someone who espouses leadership by example, catcalling anyone in a press conference with all cameras trained on him defies logic. Then again, that’s Mayor Duterte.
“What appalled me even more was how some people in the room reacted.
“Most laughed, others made teasing noise and basically urged the mayor to dish some more!
“And he did. I do hope none of them were journalists because if they were, shame on them.
“When you see or hear anyone say something wrong, you do not encourage it, you do the opposite.
“Or in that particular instance at least, they should have kept quiet and in their silence gave the message that what the mayor did was wrong.
“Some jokes are funny and should be laughed at... but disrespecting women is definitely not one of them.”
Nadadamay si Raffy sa Medialdea controversy dahil sa kabila ng paglilinaw ng kanyang asawa, nakatatanggap din siya ng mga batikos mula sa detractors ni Mariz.

Ironically, tulad ni Duterte, nasa The Hague ngayon si Roque na nagbabakasakaling mabigyan ng asylum ng Dutch government.
Tinutugis ng batas si Roque dahil sa pagkakasangkot niya sa mga ilegal na gawain ng Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) sa Pampanga.
Noong Setyembre 2024, tumakas siya sa Pilipinas at bigla na lamang siyang nakita sa The Hague nang dalhin dito si Duterte.
