Natulala at nalungkot ang Filipino beauty pageant fans dahil hindi pumasok sa Top 16 ng 71st Miss Universe ang Philippine bet na si Celeste Cortesi.
Pero nabawasan ang kanilang pagkadismaya nang magwaging Miss Universe 2022 ang kandidata ng USA, ang Filipino-American na si R’Bonney Gabriel.
Ginanap ang grand coronation ng Miss Universe 2022 sa New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, Sabado ng gabi, January 14, 2023 (U.S. time).

Muling bumalik ang sisi ng ilang Pinoy pageant fans sa evening gown at national costume na ginamit ni Celeste sa preliminary competition ng Miss Universe 2022 dahil sa kanilang paniniwalang isa iyon sa mga dahilan kaya nagwakas na ang labindalawang (12) taong semi-finals streak ng Pilipinas sa Miss Universe.

CELESTE CORTESI'S GOWN FOR THE MISS U FINALS
Dalawang oras bago naganap ang koronasyon ng 71st Miss Universe na napanood sa Pilipinas ngayong Linggo, January 15, 2023, muling nakatanggap ng email ang Cabinet Files mula sa kampo ni Oliver Tolentino.
Si Tolentino ang Hollywood-based Filipino fashion designer na gumawa ng evening gown at ng Darna costume ni Celeste sa preliminary competition ng Miss Universe 2022.
Headline ng email: “Celeste Cortesi expected to wear Oliver Tolentino in final.”
Nakalagay sa bahagi nito ang paliwanag tungkol sa evening gown ni Celeste sa preliminary competition na tumanggap ng mga kritisismo.
Naniniwala si Tolentino na may kinalaman ang “lighting” sa entablado ng Miss Universe kaya hindi masyadong na-appreciate o nabigyan ng halaga ang gown na maganda umano kapag nakita sa personal.
“Regarding the preliminary gown, there was much online chatter about how the stage lighting may have affected the look of the blue gown.
“Tolentino agrees that lighting may have distorted how it registered on stage versus how it looks in person.
“Celeste walked with ease and confidence and everyone should be proud of her as I am,” ani Tolentino.
Dagdag sa ipinadalang email: "In reality, Celeste and her team loved the preliminary gown in progress so much they asked Tolentino if it were too much to ask him to create another gown just to have another option, maybe as a finals gown.
"With only 5 work days and working around the clock at the same time he was creating the preliminary gown and the new version of the national costume, Tolentino produced what is expected to be tonight’s final gown. Celeste provided input and apparently was pleased with the outcome."
Pahayag pa ni Tolentino, “I was told by someone on her team that when she fitted it for the first time in New Orleans and it fit perfectly that she had tears in her eyes.”
Hindi na nasilayan ang gown na idinisenyo ni Tolentino dahil hindi nga umabante sa semi-final round ang Filipino-Italian beauty queen.
LAST-MINUTE REPLACEMENT
Samantala, nagpahayag naman ng pagkadismaya si Voltaire Tayag, ang Director for Communications ng Miss Universe Philippines Organization sa report ng Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP.ph) na may titulong “Darna costume ni Celeste Cortesi sa Miss Universe 2022, last-minute replacement lang.”

Sa kumakalat na screenshot ng palitan ng mensahe ni Voltaire sa kanyang kausap, sinabi niya: “The Darna costume was always the original concept that we planned for. It was never a replacement.
“It’s really upsetting to have people spread completely wrong information and they never even reached out to anyone in the org. prior to publishing it.
“I messaged PEP.ph because this was incorrect headline with misleading information.They are going to correct their error."
For the record, nanggaling ang "completely wrong information" na tinutukoy ni Voltaire mula sa email na ipinadala ng kampo ni Tolentino sa Cabinet Files.
Tila hindi ipinaalam ni Tolentino kay Voltaire ang email na may pamagat na "Oliver Tolentino Again Comes To The Rescue of Miss Universe Philippines" na ipinadala nila sa mga news organization.
Kung may dapat balikan o kausapin si Voltaire, ito ay si Tolentino at hindi ang PEP.ph dahil ang kampo ng fashion designer ang source ng email na naglalaman ng detalyadong kuwento tungkol sa Darna costume ni Celeste.
For the record also, ang Miss Universe Philippines Creative and Events Director na si Jonas Gaffud at hindi si Voltaire ang nakipag-ugnayan sa Cabinet Files para sabihin na mali ang report na inilabas ng PEP.ph.
Ipinadala namin kay Jonas ang kabuuan ng email ni Tolentino para maliwanagan sila at malaman nilang nanggaling ang kuwento mula sa kampo ng Hollywood-based Filipino fashion designer.
"Will clarify" ang sagot namin kay Jonas.
Hindi namin sinabing "iko-correct" dahil papaano iwawasto ang isang report na mismong ang gumawa ng evening gown at national costume ang source?

Naiwasan sana ang isyung inumpisahan ng kampo ni Tolentino kung “nakipag-volt in” muna sa kanya si Voltaire bago nito pinakawalan ang mabigat na paratang na nagkakalat ng mga maling impormasyon ang PEP.ph.
Higit na nakakadismaya ang walang katotohanang akusasyon ni Voltaire laban sa PEP.ph na palaging sinusuportahan nang walang anumang kapalit ang Miss Universe Philippines Organization at ang mga kandidatang ipinadadala nila sa Miss Universe pero hindi nakatatanggap ng simpleng pasasalamat mula sa kanya.
