Pops Fernandez on her grade-school teacher: "Sinasabi niya, ‘Don’t ever use the word can’t. You always have to tell yourself you can. And once you tell yourself you can, then it’s easier to do. In the end, you can.'"

“Why I can’t forget her? Because I was scared of her…” natawang sabi ni Pops.

Agad naman niyang paliwanag, “No, because she was very strict, a disciplinarian. And as a child, di ba nakakatakot yun?

"But growing up, I realized I learned so many things from her.

“Isa sa mga bagay na hindi ko makakalimutan is, di ba, kapag bata ka and you’re doing something, lalo na kapag quiz or something like that, the kids would say, ‘But I can’t!’

“Nagagalit si Mrs. Angeles parati. Sinasabi niya, ‘Don’t ever use the word can’t. You always have to tell yourself you can. And once you tell yourself you can, then it’s easier to do. In the end, you can.'

“So, growing up, especially when you’re a child, surrounded by all these children, sometimes you get bullied, I used to say, when I get scared, 'I can.'

“I should never use the word I can’t.

"And 'til this day, every time meron akong mga bagay… something I would have to do, I always tell myself I can.

“All of us working behind Gabay Guro over the last 15 years—the core team of volunteers, artists and celebrity advocates, our loyal sponsors—everyone remains united for the purpose of giving our teachers the honor that they deserve.

“The difficult times of the pandemic failed to stop us in the pursuit of this purpose.

"The seven pillars of Gabay Guro serve as our guide to encourage and uplift the teachers because we believe that changing the life of one teacher has a positive multiplier effect on her students,” mensahe ni Chaye.
