Lahad niya, “Growing up, my fondest memory of grandma was when we were rowdy kids and she would run after us and try to cover us with her duster.
“She would always joke and say that she didn’t wear any underwear and, good thing, I was too young to remember if she really did or did not.
“I actually didn’t grow up around grandma because we were based in the Philippines and she was based in San Francisco with my grandfather, Amado Cortez, and my dad’s siblings.
“We would see each other only during Christmas and holidays so sadly we didn’t really have a tight relationship.”
“When I married Niño, she spoke to her friend and asked if Niño was a good guy.
“Her friend is very close to the owner of Seafood City, Niño’s competitor, and of course, he didn’t have any good words to say about Niño!” natawang sabi ni Krista.
“Throughout the years, Niño was able to show grandma that he didn’t love only me but that love extended to my whole family especially to grandma.
“On our latest trip with grandma, she kept on telling Niño, ‘I love you my apo’ and Niño would joke, ‘Di ba, Grandma, dati ayaw mo naman sa akin, e.’”
Aniya, “When we took her to Las Vegas about ten days before she passed, she was so happy and full of life.
“She spent many hours playing the slot machine. I even brought her to the spa to have facial, IV infusion, and even botox.
“I even joked, 'Pastilan naman, Grandma, baka maligawan ka na naman niyan.' And she said, 'Ay, ewan!’”
