Ang 75-year-old political science at international relations expert ang nag-iisang babae sa hanay ng presidential debate panelists.
Pero siya ang nagmarka sa mga manonood dahil sa kanyang mahusay at matalinong pagtatanong sa mga presidential aspirant na sina former Senator Bongbong Marcos, labor leader Leody de Guzman, former Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales, at former presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella.
Ang karakter, walang paliguy-ligoy na pagsasalita na hindi nakakainsulto o nanghihiya, at ang partisipasyon ni Carlos sa presidential debate ng SMNI ay nagpaalaala sa marami sa pumanaw na feisty senator na si Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
Dahil sa paraan ng kanyang pagtatanong at mga opinyon sa mga presidential aspirant, trending hanggang ngayon sa iba’t ibang social media platforms ang pangalan ni Carlos.
May mga panawagan din mula sa netizens na imbitahan siya sa ibang presidential debates para makaharap at matanong niya ang mga presidential candidate na sina Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Panfilo Lacson, Senator Manny Pacquiao, at Manila Mayor Isko Moreno na hindi nakadalo sa SMNI-sponsored event.
Kung may kinalaman sa pulitika ang mga usapin, may malawak na karanasan si Carlos.
Bukod sa dating political science professor sa University of the Philippines, eksperto siya sa pamahalaan at pulitika sa Pilipinas.
Maikukumpara sa isang rock star ang trato kay Carlos ng netizens dahil sa mga papuri at paghanga na kanyang natanggap sa ipinamalas niya sa presidential debate, lalo na nang magsalita siya tungkol sa mga guro na isa sa mga tunay na bayani ng ating bansa.
Pahayag niya: “I am an educator and I have been teaching for the past 55 years, I started teaching when I was 20 so I’m 75 now.
“So education is really so pivotal to my professional life.The empirical evidence are just to us that effective learning happens on the basis of two factors.
“First, the mastery of the subject matter by the teachers and, two, a fairly high level of motivation with the student and they are interacting.
“Therefore, if you want to do any policy changes that means you pay attention and you invest on the teacher.
“Do not invest on airconditioned rooms, classrooms, et cetera because these things can happen even under the papaya tree.
"But ff the teacher is bobo, no learning happens, so that means if you have limited number of pesos, put it on the training of teachers."
