The producers of Senior Year are happy that their indie film has been recommended by the Department of Education just in time for its regular run on March 9.
"This recommendation from the DepEd is very heartening to us. We really intended the film to be for everyone, especially the students," said producer Franco Alido of Digitank Studios.
The memo issued by DepEd described the film by saying: "The film tackles the bittersweet travails of interesting teen personalities, inevitable complexities involving teachers and students and how their senior year turned around as they head through life's unknown destination."
Directed by Jerrold Tarrog, Senior Year was selected as one of the five feature films in the independent film category of the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival.
The movie tells the stories of ten students who gather in a reunion and recollect the last few months before graduating high school. Secrets are revealed, hearts are broken, and friendships are mended as the teens move towards the challenging world of adulthood.
The cast is a mix of professional actors and students who were chosen specifically for this film. Leading the cast are Dimples Romana, LJ Moreno, Ina Feleo, Arnold Reyes, Che Ramos, Ramon Bautista and RJ Ledesma.
The newbies selected by Jerrold include Daniel Clavecilla Medrana, Aaron John Tan Balana, Rosanne de Boda, Franzes Bunda, Mary Amirose Lojo, Daniel Lumain, Celina Penaflorida, Nikita Conwi, Eric Marquez and Sheila Marie Bulanhagui.
The movie was also graded "A" by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
