Rosanna Roces will soon be in the limelight once again when
she portrays a mother burdened by numerous problems in the indie film titled Pasang
Krus. This Holy Week presentation, written and directed by Neal Tan, tells
the tale of a hapless mother named Hermina (played by Osang, Rosanna's
nickname).
Incidentally, Pasang Krus is also the title of a 1957 film starring Rosa
Mia, Rita Gomez, and Luis Gonzales. According to Direk Neal, Pasang Krus is
about a woman whose children are a burden or considered to be "pasang krus."
In a recent interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Direk Neal
clarified that this Rosanna Roces film will not have a sexy theme. "Hindi sya
bold ha, pang-Holy week siya. Magpapapako talaga siya sa krus," revealed the
director.
After playing a rape victim in Aurora, the mother of Piolo Pascual in Manila
and a horse race aficionado in Karera, Rosanna is cast as a selfless
mother who is willing to do everything for the welfare of her children.
In Pasang Krus, Hermina (Osang) lives with her husband and four children in Isabela. She was pregnant with her fifth child when her husband (Jordan Castillo) was murdered because of a land dispute in Isabela. Hermina (Osang) had to run away to save her children from her husband's murderers, but along the way, she loses track of her daughter, which will portrayed by Empress Schuck. She will live with her three sons, but the boys go astray. Her sons, played by Ketchup Eusebio becomes an alcoholic, newcomer Christian Burke was sent to prison, and the youngest, portrayed by BJ Morales, becomes a drug pusher. Although Hermina is faced with a series of problems and misfortunes, she never loses hope and faith in the Almighty.
"I accept a project if it has touched me," says Rosanna in a previous interview. "And if it has made me cry without knowing it, which I did when I read the 36th page of the [Pasang Krus] script."
Best known for her sexy roles on screen, she breaks the mold through this heart-wrenching film. "My character's story is compelling," says the female actress whose last film, Aurora, was rated X twice by the MTRCB. "The movie will show my being a mother. You will see your mom in it and yourself as a child. You will love your mom more after watching it."
Completing the cast of Pasang Krus are Joross Gamboa,
Empress Schuck, Jao Mapa, Ketchup Eusebio, Carlos Morales, Jett Alcantara,
Swarding, and Maricar Santos. The movie produced by AP Productions will be
screened in time for the Holy Week this April.
