Saad ng PAWS sa isang Facebook post, “deeply concerned and shocked” sila sa ginawa sa kalapati na ginamit bilang “prop in an Easter presentation at The Diocesan Shrine & Parish of Immaculate Conception in Malabon.”

Pagdedetalye pa ng grupo, “The terrified bird was tied to a string, its wings forcibly spread with a stick as it was hoisted up for the sole purpose of removing the cloth covering the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary.”

“The dove was tied to balloons, and the balloons were released, killing the bird and polluting the environment in the process.”

Kinuwestiyon ng PAWS ang anila'y “gimmicky version of the ritual” ng simbahan.

Bagamat nirerespeto at kinikilala ng PAWS ang tradisyon ng selebrasyon ng Salubong, ang paggamit daw ng live animal sa paraang nakasasama rito ay “inconsistent with the values of compassion, stewardship, and care for all of creation.”

Sabi ng PAWS, "Cruelty has no place in religious celebrations or in any type of gathering in our society."

NETIZENS SLAM CHURCH

Komento ng isang netizen: “Been wondering what happened to religious people out there! Don’t religions teach empathy and compassion? Coz I’m sure the Bible does.”

Susog ng isa pa: “Doves are such beautiful creatures. Can’t believe they are being used like this to celebrate Holy Week. And they call themselves religious pa.”

Buwelta ng isa pang netizen: “Ayan ha. Sa simbahan pa talaga nagsimula ang cruelty. Yung mga ‘banal-banalan’ jan ha. Tsk tsk.”

Ayon sa isa pa: “This from the people we expect to teach us about love and compassion for all of God’s creations.”

“So sad that the said church is celebrating Easter Sunday without compassion. It’s destroying the image and belief of Catholics.”

Panawagan nito sa Diocese of Kalookan, “Let’s practice what we preach.”

DIOCESE OF KALOOKAN ISSUES APOLOGY

“We extend our sincere apology for what transpired,” parte ng pahayag ng diocese.

Pagtatanggol nito, “It had been presumed that the dove would be released immediately after the unveiling.”

“This act is regrettable,” sabi diocese.

Bilang tugon sa isyu: “The parish has committed to discontinue this practice. There will be no more balloon-flying in future celebrations, and the dove will be released immediately after the unveiling.

“As a community of faith, we are reminded that our expressions of devotion must always be guided by compassion and responsibility. In careing for Gods creation, we honor the Risen Lord who calls us to protect and cherish every form of life.”
