Cake Studio has spoken out after PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) reached out for its reaction to Carla Abellana’s wedding slab cake becoming a hot topic online.
The buzz was sparked by actor Janus del Prado, who shared a photo of the cake and said it resembled a coffin.
Carla quickly responded, saying it was not only edible but also tasty.
And it was all that mattered to the supplier: customer satisfaction.
“Taking into account the cake of Carla & Reg, their all-white slab cake with minimal curls and design speaks of their simple yet elegant way in finding their love for each other,” Cake Studio told PEP on Tuesday morning, January 6, 2026.
It also pointed out that in momentous events like the actress’s wedding, the focus should not be defined by the single photo that circulated online.
“If only we can relive that magical moment when everything about their wedding perfectly matches in harmony: from the venue styling, floral arrangements, table set up, the cake, their cocktail spreads, booths and everything," the supplier continued.
“If only people can look beyond just one photo and see how the couple planned a well-thought celebration to be shared to their loved ones, then all those negative ideas about their wedding will certainly be disregarded.”
The home-based supplier of cakes and pastries in Silang, Cavite, started its business in 2015.

BEYOND THE ONLINE NOISE
Cake Studio chose to focus beyond the online buzz and not get affected by the negativity.
“As to the mixed opinions of the public, we take their reactions as all positive criticism."
At present, the team is overwhelmed by the massive online attention, as well as the positive feedback from its partners and previous clients.
“While we appreciated feedback and reactions from other people, we don't focus on their opinions because what matters to us is our client's reactions.
“Hence, we are not affected on whether or not the public accepts our designs, for as long as our client couples are happy about it, [b]ecause they are the ones we wanted to really satisfy.”
It emphasized: “Generally, people will always have different takes on things. But in the end, what makes a difference is the reaction and satisfaction of our clients whom our cakes are made for.”

WHY SLAB CAKES
Cake Studio then shared more details about its modern wedding cakes.
“As to the popularity of slab cakes, Carla's cake was actually the 8th slab cake we have set up ever since we introduced it during the Kasalang Tagaytay Festival (@kasalangtagaytay) last September 2025.”
The supplier revealed that many clients, particularly couples, have reached out to order their slab cakes.
It also highlighted the advantages of modern slab cakes compared to traditional tiered wedding cakes.
Unique look
Unlike traditional tiered cakes, slab cakes have a distinct and unusual appearance.
“Imagine walking into a wedding reception and seeing a long cake before you."
Personal touch
The cake’s unique features—such as its length, design, and intricate details—make it truly eye-catching.
Each design is fully customized to suit the clients’ preferences.
Cake Studio said: “Some couples opt for adding fresh florals, wafer paper ruffles, mixed berries, while other like to keep it simple. We make sure that we deliver what is requested by our clients, and what will satisfy them.”
Lastly, the slab cakes are for all, and Carla’s wedding cake was a “crowd favorite.”
It revealed: "Our light vanilla chiffon with whipped cream cheese frosting, fresh mixed berries and berry compote in between, finished with our stable Swiss meringue buttercream.
“Our clients wanted something they can share with all of their guests, and slab cakes are the most perfect choice. Our 3ft slab cake can be shared with 80-100pax, depending on the slice.”
How much? The supplier declined to mention the price.
“All in all, our mission is and has always been to provide our clients the best of our products, satisfying their needs and enhancing the core of their life's celebration,” Cake Studio concluded.
