The Marvel Cinematic Universe enters a new era with Captain America: Brave New World, giving Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson his first feature film as the shield-wielding hero.

The film delivers solid action, some stand-out performances, and an engaging premise.

However, it also feels a little undercooked.

THE PLOT

Following the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson is now Captain America, helping the United States keep threats at bay.

THE STANDOUTS

Marvel’s action sequences are usually a strong point, and Brave New World does not disappoint.

The fight choreography is sharp, and the steady cinematography ensures that every hit is felt.

A stand-out aerial battle showcases Sam’s unique combat style, proving that a winged Captain America can be just as thrilling to watch as his popular predecessor.

Danny Ramirez shines as Joaquin Torres. His charm and energy make him a scene-stealer, adding youthful humor and warmth to the film without feeling forced.

Harrison Ford, stepping into the role of President Ross, brings his signature no-nonsense attitude, making Ross a surprisingly relatable figure in the midst of chaos.

Two cast members, in particular, also shine despite being given little screentime.

Carl Lumbly returns as Isaiah Bradley, and delivers a performance filled with both strength and vulnerability. His presence adds emotional weight to Sam’s journey.

Shira Haas also makes an impact as Ruth, an enforcer working under Sterns. Despite her diminutive stature, she is terrifying in action, proving to be a formidable threat.

THE HICCUPS

A major twist that could have delivered a shocking moment somewhat loses its impact due to early revelations before the film hit the cinemas.

The build-up to the climax also has some pacing issues, with several plot points feeling disjointed. The main villain, for instance, takes multiple detours that could have been streamlined to maintain momentum.

Some promising characters are underutilized. Isaiah, for example, spends most of the movie stuck in prison. It would have been more compelling if he breaka out—perhaps with the villain’s help—to join the final battle against Red Hulk. After all, he is a super soldier.

FINAL VERDICT

Captain America: Brave New World is entertaining.

It features thrilling action sequences, strong performances from its supporting cast, and a compelling journey for Sam Wilson as he cements his place as Captain America.
