Ang pagpanaw ni Lao ay kinumpirma ng Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Film, Broadcast and New Media, sa pamamagitan ng isang Facebook post, kahapon, Hunyo 18, 2024.

Nakasaad sa Facebook post: "Today, we mourn the passing of the award-winning screenwriter and director, Armando "Bing" Lao.

"Lao pioneered the Found Story School of filmmaking, a scriptwriting approach that he believes best captures the essence of Filipino reality by drawing inspiration from real-life objects and phenomena. He mentored over 40 batches of workshoppers in Found Story filmmaking workshop, guiding aspiring and professional storytellers in creating films that resonate deeply with audiences."

Binanggit din ang mga napalunan niyang awards mula sa local award-giving bodies para sa kanyang screenplays. Kabilang na rito ang Takaw-Tukso (Urian Best Screenplay, 1987), Itanong Mo Sa Buwan (Urian Best Screenplay, 1989), Oras-Oras, Araw-Araw (Film Academy Award Best Screenplay, 1990), at Tuhog (Urian Best Screenplay, 2001).

Nakatanggap din siya ng papuri mula sa international film critics para sa kanyang trabaho sa Serbis (2008) at Kinatay (2009), na parehong idinirek ng Cannes-winning director na si Brillante Mendoza.

Dagdag pa ng CCP: "His depiction of Filipino culture and experiences has helped promote the nation’s heritage through film, serving as a cultural archive for future generations.

"Your work and generosity to the film industry will never be forgotten, Armando "Bing" Lao."

ARMANDO "BING" LAO ATTENDED THE PARANGAL NG SINING

Noon lamang Abril 19, 2024 ay dumalo si Bing Lao sa 2nd Parangal ng Sining ng Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) sa Seda Hotel Vertis North, Quezon City.

Personal niyang tinanggap ang Lifetime Achievement Award mula kay FDCP Chair Jose Javier Reyes.

Paralisado na ang kanang bahagi ng katawan ni Lao kaya naka-wheelchair ito nang tanggapin ang award kasama ang isang male nurse.

NOOD KA MUNA!

Ayon sa kanyang tagapag-alaga, hindi na nagsasalita ang 76-year-old writer pero alam nito ang mga nangyayari sa paligid niya.

Ang direktor at kaibigan ni Lao na si Jeffrey Jeturian ang nagpakilala sa kanya at naglahad ng mga kontribusyon niya sa industriya ng pelikulang Pilipino.

Ayon kay Jeturian, hindi lamang screenwriter si Lao dahil higit sa lahat, mentor ito ng mga baguhang manunulat at direktor.

Pinaniniguraduhan niyang magpapatuloy ang husay at galing ng mga Pilipinong manunulat sa pamamagitan ng pagtuturo at pagbabahagi ng kanyang mga kaalaman sa paglikha ng dulang pampelikula.

“Alam ko ito dahil maski ako, maraming natutunan [mula] sa kanya,” bahagi ng talumpati ni Jeturian.

FDCP PAYS TRIBUTE TO BING LAO

Sa pamamagitan din ng Facebook, nagbigay-pugay ang FDCP kay Bing Lao.

Nakasaad sa kanilang post: "The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) mourns the passing of Filipino filmmaker and screenwriter Armando “Bing” Lao.

"Known for his substantial body of work in Philippine cinema, Bing Lao wrote the screenplays of Brillante Mendoza’s “Kinatay” and “Serbis,” Chito Roño’s “Itanong Mo Sa Buwan,” and Jeffrey Jeturian’s “Kubrador.”

"He also founded the influential “Found Story” workshops, teaching filmmakers how to create impactful stories that reflect the lived experiences of Filipinos.

"In honor of his legacy, the FDCP conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award to Bing Lao at this year’s Parangal ng Sining."
