PRESS RELEASE
Have you been ghosted before? What if the ghosts of the past still haunt the present? What if those ghosts want to tell you their stories?
Tag-Ani Performing Arts Society will stage Spirit of the Glass, its latest production that will run from March 8-10, 2024 at the Ignacio B. Gimenez-Kolehiyo ng Arte at Literatura (IBG-KAL) Theater in U.P. Diliman, Quezon City.
Veteran film director Joel Lamangan and playwright Bonifacio Ilagan collaborated and came up with this play that takes inspiration from the red-tagging of academics and the banning of their alleged “subversive” works by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino in 2022.
“This is not your ordinary horror story,” said Lamangan. “These are ghosts of history who want their truths to be told.”
Set in the present day, the story follows two red-tagged college instructors in their quest for truth against government forces trying to silence them and their work. Along the way, they would uncover the horrific truths about their own people’s history and human rights violations.
“Although red-tagging is the take-off point of Spirit of the Glass, it presents the origins of the true fear and terrorism of our time, exacerbated by draconian policies such as the Anti-Terrorism Act,” said Ilagan.
Exploring the genres of magic realism and horror, the story explores the lies and maneuvers of the powerful to distort the truth and to silence those who disagree.
The play opened on March 8 and it will end tomorrow, March 10, with shows every 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the newly-opened IBG-KAL Theater in UP Diliman campus.
