“The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has ruled that Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon (TVJ) are the owners of the “Eat Bulaga” trademark, including all variations thereof.

“In its 16-page decision dated December 4, 2023, the IPO held that TVJ proved that they are the originators of the Eat Bulaga mark, having created it in 1979.

“As a result, it granted TVJ’s Petition for the cancellation of the “Eat Bulaga” and “EB” trademarks earlier registered by Television and Production Exponents (TAPE), Inc.

“The IPO emphasized that “it is not the application or the registration that confers ownership of a mark, but it is ownership of the mark that confers the right of registration”, and that applications made in bad faith must be rejected.

"The Decision of the IPO is subject to appeal.

“We welcome this development and will continue to support TVJ until this issue is finally resolved,” said MediaQuest Ventures President and Chief Executive Officer, Jane J. Basas."

Ibig sabihin, legally, wala pang final. Okay?"
