Si JM ay bunsong kapatid ng mga aktor na sina Elijah at Jerom Canlas.
Pumanaw si JM sa edad na 17 noong Huwebes ng umaga, August 3, 2023.
Hindi pa isinasapubliko ang tunay na dahilan ng kanyang pagkamatay, ngunit pahapyaw na nabanggit ng kanyang pamilya sa isang Facebook post ang struggle nito sa mental health.

Si JM ay isa ring aktor haya ng kanyang mga kapatid.
Nagsimula siya bilang child actor. Kabilang siya sa cast ng Team Yey, ang children's show na napanood noon sa free-to-air channel ng ABS-CBN TVplus.
Ilan pa sa acting credits ni JM ay ang indie movies na Kiko Boksingero (2017), ANi (2019), at ang TV series na Unconditional (2020).
Sa kanyang pagpanaw, ilan sa mga nakasama at nakatrabaho niya ang ngayo'y nagluluksa.

Sa X post (formerly known as Twitter) ni Sharlene nitong Biyernes, August 4, 2023, nagpasalamat siya kay JM sa pagiging mabuting kaibigan at kapatid nito sa kanya.
Mababasa sa kanyang tweet (published as is), "JM, salamat sa pag tulong sakin mag hanap ng tamang specs para sa pc ko pang stream.. gamer na si ate Agnes.
"You will be missed, JM."
Nagkasama sina Sharlene at JM sa TV series na Unconditional, kung saan dito ay gumanap sila bilang magkapatid na Agnes (Sharlene) at Alex (JM).
XIA VIGOR
Idinaan ni Xia Vigor sa isang Instagram post ang pangungulila niya sa itinuturing niyang "Kuya Jm."
Aniya (published as is), "Kuya Jm… I just want to remember the happy side of you and thank you for all the laughter and happy memories during our Team Yey days and even after!
"I remember when you used to call me manang Xia because of how I correct you with things and advice you.
"I’m happy that when it comes to girls you trust my judgement and ask for my opinion. When we chat til midnight I always feel like I’m talking to someone younger than me.
"I will always treasure the memories when we will play Fortnite all night, your jokes, and your contagious laugh.

Paglalarawan ng young actress, na kilala rin bilang Mikmik sa seryeng Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit, si JM ay isang mabait at sweet na "kuya" at kaibigan.
Saad niya sa caption ng kanyang IG post (published as is), "Dear Kuya Jm..I miss all the fun times we had when we were little in team yay.
"I truly cared for you..and to see that you have passed at such a young age makes my heart break..I'll miss every single little memory.
"Kuya jm you were the sweetest kindest and silliest person ever and u were the loudest most energetic kid ever.
"Am so sorry I couldn't do anything to help you. Kuya Jm we love you so much. Pleaseee rest you're soul and find peace please."
Mitch Briones
Maging si Mitch ay hindi ring napigilang malungkot at maging emosyonal sa pagkawala ng kanya dating Team Yey co-host na si JM.
Pagbabahagi ni Mitch, malaki ang pasasalamat niya kay JM dahil isa ito sa tumulong sa kanya noong mayroon siyang pinagdaraanan.
Kalakip din ng kanyang Facebook post ang masasayang larawan nila JM.
"Team Yey was fun because of your witty jokes and fun attitude…May you Rest in Peace my Balitang Yey Co-host.
"JM is one of the most talented actors I have known in my whole life. He was a friend despite all the years we haven’t seen eachother in person since graduating from team yey.
"We have kept in touch and he has helped me during tough times. I wish I could’ve helped him too. Please send his family condolences because they need the strength right now."
