Ayaw magpadala ni Paolo Gumabao sa kumpetisyon sa pagitan ng magkatapat na shows na Mars Ravelo's Darna ng ABS-CBN at Maria Clara at Ibarra ng GMA-7.
Si Paolo ay bahagi ng cast ng Darna.
"To be honest with you, there's this network war going on but audience lang ang gumagawa nun.
"Kaming nasa industriya, wala naman kaming kumpetisyon.
"We have enough to worry about. We have to worry about our script, we have to worry about our characters, so we don't really have enough time to think about competition.
"We just want to do our best on our side. And if they are doing their best, okay, go lang. Do your best, but it's not to compete," katuwiran ng Kapamilya actor.
Mas gusto raw ni Paolo ang ideya ng collaboration na makabubuti para sa entertainment industry.
Paliwanag pa niya sa panayam ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "This industry should not be about competition all the time. We should make movies para iangat ang pelikulang Pilipino, not to go against each other.
"What I'm saying right now, I believe that actors and all productions should see this industry in a way na magkakampi tayong lahat, hindi tayo magkakalaban.
"Kaya tayo napag-iiwanan ng ibang bansa kasi sila napaka-collaborative nila. Ang Korea kaya sila umaangat because the government funds them.
"The production is funded by the biggest companies in Korea, and that's called camaraderie and teamwork kasi gusto nilang iangat ang kultura nila.
"We, too, can do the same, but it has to start within us."
Ayon kay Paolo, walang masama sa healthy competition lalo't nagsisilbi itong challenge para gawing mas maganda at kaabang-abang ang shows na napapanood sa ngayon.
"Yes, that's called healthy competition. Pero yung mape-pressure ka, 'Ah, yung show na yun heto ang ginagawa,' ibig sabihin di healthy yun.
"Healthy competition is you're doing your job without thinking about the other party, and them doing their job without thinking [of] your side, that's a healthy competition.
"Just do your best not because we want to beat them but because we just want to be our best."
Marami nang nagawang pelikula si Paolo, pero itinuturing daw niyang big break sa telebisyon ang pagkasama niya sa cast ng Darna.
"I'm very thankful sa Darna, kasi sa totoo, dun din nag-jumpstart yung career ko.
"So, I'm very thankful kay Ms. Julie Anne Benitez, sa JRB Creative Productions, kasi binigyan nila ako ng pagkakataon na siyempre patunayan ang sarili ko sa mga tao kung ano ang natutunan ko sa nine years ko sa industriya.
"Ang dami kong natutunan sa show na yun, kila Direk Abel, kila Direk Benedict, kila Direk Darnel, kila Direk Chito, actually sa lahat, pati sa cast ang dami kong natutunan.
"Very thankful ako, it was an amazing journey for everybody."
Patuloy ni Paolo, "Happy din ako ang daming napasaya ng Darna. I used to watch Darna as a kid so being part of the show is overwhelming.
"Feeling ko, kung kaya kong mag-time travel to the time na bata pa ako, sasabihin ko sa kanya na nakasama ko si Darna, matutuwa yun."
Papuri pa ni Paolo, masaya siya dahil nakasama niya sa isang proyekto sina Jane de Leon, Joshua Garcia, at Janella Salvador.
"Masaya silang katrabaho lahat, mararamdaman mo na they are invested sa teleserye, in the show, in the script, in their characters.
"As an actor, there is no better feeling knowing that you're working along with actors who actually care about their craft. Actors who are dedicated, actors who are committed, actors who are professionals, actors who are intelligent."

PAOLO GUMABAO TO SHOOT IN PRAGUE FOR NEW MOVIE
Eksklusibong nakapanayam ng PEP.ph si Paolo sa pagkatapos ng presscon proper ng Spring In Prague, na ginanap sa Valle Verde Club, noong January 18, 2022.
Pinaghahandaan ni Paolo ang pelikulang Spring In Prague ng Borracho Films kung saan 30 percent ng pelikula ay kukunan sa Prague.
Kuwento niya tungkol sa kanyang role: "I play as Alfonso Mucho, isang resort owner sa Puerto Galera.
"Hindi siya f*ck boy pero lapitin siya ng mga babae because he has this natural energy that attracts people. Not only girls, but also guys [but] not in a sexual way.
"Alfonso just has this energy na talagang positive na talagang people are drawn to him."
Iba raw ito sa sexy films na pinagbidahan niya gaya ng Lockdown, Silip Sa Apoy, at Sisid nitong nagdaang dalawang taon.
Paliwanag niya: "I'm very happy to be doing this film siyempre, first time ko ring mag-rom-com. Nakapag-explore din ako sa rom-com side ng craft ko, which is I'm having a great time dito sa shoot na ito kasi di puro drama, hindi action, hindi sexy.
"Okay lang sa akin yun, I love doing those, masaya ako sa mga nakuha kong projects before. Pero siyempre, today, we're doing a film that is bit different and feeling ko this is a good one."
Masaya rin si Paolo na nakapareha niya sa pelikula ang Czech actres na si Sara Sandeva.
"Sara is such an amazing actress. Hindi ko lang sinasabi yun dahil partner ko siya pero nakita ko yung dedication niya, nakita ko yung commitment niya sa pelikula na ito.
"Naniniwala ako this would be something great. We're gonna shoot in Prague [for] some scenes in February. Excited kasi first time ko magyu-Europe. I've only been around Asia."
FAMILY THINGS
Si Paolo ay anak ni Dennis Roldan, na hanggang ngayon ay nakaditena pa rin sa New Bilibid Prison dahil sa kasong kidnapping.
Matagal na raw mula nang huling nakadalaw si Paolo sa ama.
"No, not really recently. It's been a busy two years for me. Ever since Lockdown, yung pelikula namin ni Direk Joel Lamangan, blessings just came.
"This came [Spring In Prague], and I'm very happy na may mga blessings. May blessings sa work.
"Minsan nasa-sacrifice yung ganito, nasa-sacrifice yung time sa family, but I'm still trying to find time na makasama ang pamilya ko, makasama siyempre si Papa."
Sa huli ay tinanong namin ang aktor kung mayroon ba siyang girlfriend sa.
Sagot ni Paolo, "No, to be honest with you, I think it's a waste of time. Ang hirap maghanap ng matinong babae ngayon.
"Alam ko naman na mayroon, pero siguro kaya hindi ko siya iniisip ngayon because alam ko na darating na lang nang kusa."
