Pinuna ng ilang netizens ang tila “panunumbat” ng TV Patrol weatherman na si Kim Atienza kay Maguindanao Second District Representative Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu.
Kahapon, August 26, ibinahagi ng ABS-CBN News Facebook page ang artikulo sa kasal ni Mangudadatu kay Miss Asia Pacific International 2018 Sharifa Akeel.
Nagkomento si Kim sa nasabing post.
Ayon sa kanya, noong panahong matindi ang labang kinakaharap ng political family ni Mangudadatu laban sa makapangyarihang rival Ampatuan family, naging kakampi niya ang Kapamilya network.
Ang ilang kamag-anak ni Mangudadatu, political allies, at pati media personalities ay biktima sa tinaguriang Maguindanao massacre noong November 2009. Limampu't walo ang pinatay sa insidenteng yun.
Komento ni Kim, “When this man and his family was under attack by the Ampatuans ABS CBN was his ally and gave him all the support he needed.”
Fast forward sa 2020, sa pakikipaglaban ng ABS-CBN para sa bagong prangkisa nito sa Kongreso, isa si Mangudadatu sa pitumpong kongresista na bumoto ng “yes” upang ibasura ang franchise application ng network.
Sabi ni Kim, “When ABS was under attack in congress, This man sided with our enemies and voted AGAINST our franchise renewal.
“Now we are covering his wedding. Had to say that. Back to you guys.”

Sa higit 700 na nag-react sa komento ni Kim, karamihan ay salungat sa kanyang opinyon.
Sabi ng isang netizen, “Pag tumulong po kyo sa kapwa nyo wag kyo maghintay ng kapalit Salamat lang ayos n Diyos npo ang bahalang mag reward sa atin”
Komento ng isa pang netizen, “Kuya Kim Atienza it's your job to expose all things about the Maguindanao massacre. He just did his job at the congress.”
Ayon sa isa pa, “Kuya Kim Atienza like we can't please everyone just respect his decision that's not his obligation to look back what the network did for him and pay it in return cause that's the network works & reponsibility in the first place they also get something from it kaya walang sumbatan just saying back to you kuya Kim”
Litanya pa ng isa: "The Maguindanao/Ampatuan Massacre was considered as the worst incident of electoral violence in PH history and the single deadliest attack on journalists globally. 52 people were killed in broad daylight. With the magnitude of its horror, it was not only covered by local media, with ABS-CBN at the forefront, but by international press as well. [Total number killed was 58.—Eds]
"Being the biggest media entity then, and with the ‘core purpose of being in the service of the Filipino, was it not ABS-CBN’s job to cover the entire case, and provide due airtime to the victims?
"Was it not just fair on ABS-CBN’s part to provide the victims all the support (media exposure) they need given that their families were killed? Or did ABS provide other forms of support to Mangudadatu that the public do not know?
"What was ABS-CBN’s motivation then to ‘support’ the man? Was it your core purpose in serving the Filipino or your planting a seed of ‘utang na loob’ that you expect to reap in the future?
"And please, who are the enemies that you are talking about?
"Now, since you seem to be so upset that you guys are covering his wedding despite his vote, question is why? Don’t you have a choice not to?

May ilang nakiayon kay Kim:
Hindi sumagot si Kim sa mga ito.
Pero may sinagot siya na maaaring nagtanong kung magkaaway ba sila ni Congressman Mangudadatu.
Sagot ni Kim, “oh mangudadatu is not my enemy. I am just stating a fact.”
Pero hindi na ito makikita sa thread ng post ni Kim.
Maaaring binura na ng netizen ang kanyang komento kaya kasamang nabura ang sagot ni Kim.
May mga nagsabi namang hindi dapat ginawang isyu ni Kim ang loyalty o gratitude. Trabaho ng isang news network na i-report ang katotohanan sa likod ng Maguindanao massacre.
Mas tama kung ang ginawang isyu ni Kim ay ang alamin ang paninindigan ni Mangudadatu bilang kongresista—o ang tanong na di maiwawaksi: Bakit tinanggal ang prangkisa ng ABS-CBN? May paglabag nga ba ang network? O may nakalaban lang sa Malacañang? At kung dahil sa huli, bakit naging sunod-sunuran ang mga kongresista, kasama na si Mangudadatu?
