Kilala si Aquino sa palayaw na Noynoy. Nagsilbi siya bilang Pangulo mula 2010 hanggang 2016.
Huwebes ng umaga, Hunyo 24, binawian ng buhay si Noynoy dahil sa renal disease secondary to diabetes. Siya ay 61.
Kinagabihan, nag-alay si Pangulong Duterte ng moment of silence sa gitna ng kanyang speech sa Malacañang.
Sabi niya: "It is with profound sadness that I learned the passing of former President Benigno Aquino III this morning.
"We thank the former president for his service to our country. I hope that my fellow Filipinos will be inspired by his legacy.
"I offer my heartfelt condolences to the Aquino family."
Nanawagan si Duterte na isantabi ang anumang pagkakaiba sa usaping pulitika para alalahanin ang kontribusyon ni Noynoy bilang dating Pangulo.
Sabi niya, "Let us all take this opportunity to unite in prayer and set aside our differences as we pay respects to a leader who has given his best to serve the Filipino people."
DUTERTE ON AQUINO FAMILY'S CONTRIBUTION TO PH DEMOCRACY
Kinilala rin ni Duterte ang kontribusyon ng pamilya Aquino sa pagkakaroon ng demokrasya sa bansa.
Si Noynoy ay anak nina dating Pangulong Corazon "Cory" Aquino at dating Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, na kilalang democracy icons sa bansa.
Ani Duterte ukol kay Noynoy, "His memory and his family's legacy of offering their lives for the cause of democracy will forever remain etched in our heart."
Idineklara ni Duterte na 10-day national mourning mula kahapon, June 24, hanggang July 3 para sa pagpanaw ni Noynoy.
Aniya, "Be assured of the government's assistance in this period of mourning and, above all, please accept the love and prayers of a grateful nation."
Si Duterte ang pumalit kay Noynoy nang matapos ang termino nito bilang Presidente ng Pilipinas noong 2016.
U.S. PRESIDENT BIDEN'S MESSAGE
Naalala naman ni U.S. President Biden ang pagkakataong nakatrabaho niya noon si Noynoy.
Si Biden ay nagsilbing vice president kay dating U.S. President Barack Obama mula 2009 hanggang 2017.
Sabi ni Biden: "I extend my deepest condolences to the people of the Philippines on the death of former President Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III.
"He was a valued friend and partner to the United States, and he will long be remembered for serving his country with integrity and selfless dedication."
Hanga raw si Biden sa accomplishments ni Noynoy bilang Pangulo noon.
"President Aquino's steadfast commitment to advancing peace, upholding the rule of law, and driving economic growth for all Filipinos, while taking bold steps to promote the rules-based international order, leaves a remarkable legacy at home and abroad that will endure for years to come.
"I greatly valued our time working together, and I extend my heartfelt sympathies to his family and to all who will mourn his absence."
