Regine Velasquez is happy to stay as a Kapamilya.
This was her response when host-reporter MJ Felipe thanked Regine and her husband Ogie Alcasid for not leaving ABS-CBN after it shut down following non-renewal of its franchise
With a smile, Regine told MJ, “Oo. Hahaha! Saan ba kami pupunta? May pupuntahan ba kaming iba?”
Regine and Ogie were interviewed by MJ backstage during the network's 2020 Christmas Special yesterday, December 20, 2020, at the ABS-CBN Compound.
Both Regine and Ogie were relatively new as Kapamilya.
Ogie was the first to transfer to ABS-CBN in 2016, after being with GMA-7 and TV5.
Regine joined Ogie in October 2018, after being an artist of GMA-7 for 20 years, with her last ten years in the network as an exclusive talent.
ABS-CBN CHRISTMAS SPECIAL 2020
The ABS-CBN Christmas Special, a yearly event since the early 2000s, was very different in 2020.
The network had previould held this special at the Araneta Coliseum, where all artists performed before a live audience.
This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was held at the studio of ABS-CBN.
Regine and Ogie, having been doing the special since their first year in ABS-CBN, also noticed the difference.
Regine said about the Araneta concerts, “That is so special, siyempre, nandoon lahat ng artista, ang daming tao, special na special talaga iyon.
“Plus, you know, iyong mga ganito kasing gatherings, dito mo lang din nakikita iyong ibang artista na hindi mo madalas nakikita, nakakasalamuha, so you get to talk to them lalo na kapag may rehearsal.
“But this year, parang for me, it’s more intimate.
“A lot of the numbers are tagos na tagos sa puso, so ayun special pa rin.”
Ogie agreed with Regine’s comment about the “tagos sa puso” numbers.
He said, “Hindi ko sinasabing mas okay ito kaysa sa malalaking concert, it’s just that I guess, it’s also the year that has been.
“Itong taong ito ay kakaiba not only because of the pandemic, but because of what we all went through,” referring to the non-renewal of the franchise.
Regine added, “So, everyone’s kind of emotional, I think.”
Ogie continued, “It’s all Kapamilyas' way of saying thank you for staying with us."
The 2020 ABS-CBN Christmas Special aired on December 20, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z Channel 11.
