The YouTube channels of ABS-CBN News and ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) are now accessible to its subscribers.
Earlier today, November 3, 2020, both accounts were down due to alleged “violation of YouTube Terms of Service.”
Subsequently, ABS-CBN News trended on Twitter because netizens who tried clicking videos from both channels were told the accounts were “terminated.”
The statement issued by ABS-CBN assured Kapamilya fans that the network would investigate the matter.
ABS-CBN NEWS YOUTUBE CHANNELS WERE HACKED
According to a YouTube spokesperson who was interviewed by PhilStar.com, the channels of ABS-CBN News and ANC were hacked on November 2.
A netizen @medyemen also posted screenshots of ABS-CBN News and ANC’s YouTube channels featuring videos from Ripple Foundation.
On ABS-CBN News’ YouTube account, the featured video was titled “Brad Garlinghouse – XRP Ripple Cryptocurrency [LIVE] News 2020.”
The same image was used on ANC’s YouTube featured video, which had the title “Ripple [XRP Live] SWELL: Event | XRP Future | Ripple Update.”
ABS-CBN has issued a statement about the hacking incident.
The statement reads: "After working closely with YouTube, the ABS-CBN News and ANC 24/7 channels have been restored at 3:58 p.m. today.
"The two news channels were temporarily suspended beginning 6:30 a.m. this morning after a hacking incident.
"The investigation on the incident continues as we also implement measures to prevent this from happening again.
"ABS-CBN remains committed to provide news and information to our contrymen, particularly over these trying times as we recover from the effects of Super Typhoon Rolly and prepare for another incoming weather disturbance.
"We thank the public for their support and understanding."
At press time, the topic ABS-CBN News is still trending on Twitter.
ABS-CBN News’ YouTube channel currently serves as the main platform for updates and coverage of typhoon Rolly and the COVID-19 pandemic.
It also features highlights of DZMM Teleradyo programs, and does live streams of news programs, particularly ABS-CBN’s flagship newscast TV Patrol.
Recently, the YouTube channel had throwback videos of the network’s defunct public affairs programs, including the Halloween episodes of Noli de Castro’s Magandang Gabi Bayan.
ANC's YouTube channel houses highlights of its original programs for those who do not have access to the cable channel.
