Kinilala ng Guinness World Records (GWR) ang Spanish national na si Wences Palau Fernandez bilang “world's largest collector of mobile phones.”
Sa artikulong inilathala ng GWR sa official website nito last August 15, 2024, tampok ang collection ni Wences ng 3,615 cellphones—karamihan sa mga ito ay unique models.
Nalampasan niya ang previous record na 3,456 cellphones na naitala ni Andrei Bilbie Argentis ng Romania noong 2023.
Ang kanyang collection ay iniingatan ni Wences sa kanyang bahay sa Barcelona, Spain.

COLLECTOR NA-OBSSESS SA CELLPHONE NANG MAREGALUHAN NG NOKIA 3210
Sa panayam sa kanya ng GWR, sinabi ni Wences na nagsimula siyang ma-obsess sa cellphone nang may magregalo sa kanya ng grey Nokia 3210 noong Pasko ng 1999.
Mula noon, lagi niyang inaantabayanan kapag may bagong modelo ng Nokia na lumalabas—at nangangarap na magkaroon siya.
Sinimulan naman niya ang pagkokolekta ng Nokia noong 2008.

Ang plano niya ay magkaroon ng mga lumang modelo na hindi niya nabili nang ilunsad sa market. Hindi pa kasi niya afford ito noon.
Na-a-acquire niya ang lumang modelo sa mas murang halaga.
Dumami nang dumami ang kanyang collection, hanggang hindi na magkasya sa display cabinet na ipinasadya pa niya.
Kalaunan, maging ang buong kuwarto niya ay napuno na rin ng cellphones.

NAGKOLEKTA NG IBANG BRANDS, NOKIA LIMITED EDITION CELLPHONES
Pagsapit ng 2018, nakakolekta na si Wences ng 700 na iba’t ibang Nokia models.
Noon na rin siya nagdesisyon na magkolekta ng ibang brands, at maging ng cellphones na hindi commercially available.
Ani Wences, “The evolution of my collection was constant.
“And although I had abandoned it for about a year, I returned to the fray with the intention of getting—in addition to all the phones that Nokia launched on the market—those that it did not put on sale, the phones which we all know as prototypes.”
Ang kanyang journey sa pagiging cellphone collector ay idinokumento ni Wences sa kanyang sariling website, ang Nokia Project Dream.

Bukod sa kanyang paboritong brand, nagkokolekta rin siya ng mga gawa ng Siemens, NEC, Motorola, Blackberry, Samsung, HTC, Apple, at iba pa.
Ilan sa kanyang mga iniingatan ay specially manufactured limited editions, gaya ng Nokia 3220 Star Wars Ep III collection.
Mayroon siyang Yoda, Starfighter, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Cyborg, and Padawan versions ng nasabing limited edition cellphone.
“In my collection I have very exclusive and difficult to find models.
“My current collection is the result of a lot of perseverance and financial effort.”
Paliwanag niya sa kanyang obsession, “If you are a collector, you will know well what I mean.”

CELLPHONE COLLECTOR PLANONG MAGTAYO NG MUSEUM
Aminado naman si Wences na hindi pa rin kumpleto ang kanyang collection, at aniya, “I continue to expand whenever possible.”
Nagdesisyon siyang ipakita sa buong mundo ang kanyang collection—partikular ang Nokia models—kahit hindi pa ito kumpleto.
“Gathering each and every one of the terminals that Nokia manufactured is not an easy task.
“But, taking into account that Nokia released just over 1,000 phones, having more than 700 different models in collection along with the objects and accessories that I currently have, I believe that it can begin to be considered a museum.”

Sa ngayon ay tinututukan na ni Wences ang pagpapatayo ng museum para sa kanyang collection—na aniya ay magiging happy place niya at ng iba pang tulad niyang mahilig magkolekta ng cellphone.
Umaasa siyang sa malapit na hinaharap ay makukumpleto rin niya ang lahat ng modelong ini-release ng Nokia.
