CCTV captures man breaking “Van Gogh” chair after sitting on it

The "Van Gogh" chair is studded with hundreds of Swarovski crystals.

A couple was caught in the act while taking photos of a Swarovski crystal-studded chair, which one of them broke before they fled the scene. The museum described the incident as “every museum’s nightmare.”

Laman ngayon ng international media outlets ang balita tungkol sa isang couple na tumakas matapos makasira ng isang art piece sa Palazzo Maffei, isang museum sa Verona, Italy.

May kasamang pruweba ang balita.

Sa kuha ng CCTV, makikitang inupuan ng isang lalaki ang naka-display na upuang tadtad ng Swarovksi crystals, habang kinukunan siya ng larawan ng kasamang babae.

Bumigay ang upuang obra at muntik nang bumagsak ang lalaki, pero nagawa niyang sumandal sa pader.

Kita sa video na mabilis kumaripas ng takbo ang lalaki at babae kasunod ng aksidente.

Mismong ang museo ang nag-post ng CCTV footage sa Facebook nitong June 12, 2025.

“An irresponsible gesture at Palazzo Maffei,” bungad ng post ng Palazzo Maffei.

“What you have just seen is not a joke, but an episode that really happened in the rooms of Palazzo Maffei.”

Sa sumunod nitong post: “Every museum’s nightmare has come true, even at Palazzo Maffei."

Binanggit nito kung gaano kahalaga ang nasirang obra.

Saad nito, “serious damage” ang nangyari sa art piece, na tinawag na “Van Gogh” chair, at likha ni Nicola Bolla, isang Italian artist.

Inilarawan nito ang art piece bilang “a very delicate work, entirely covered in hundreds of Swarovski crystals.”

Dagdag ng museo, matapos makita ang damage, hindi raw nila alam kung maibabalik pa sa magandang kondisyon ang upuan.

“We are sharing this episode not only for the record, but to start a real awareness campaign on the value of art and the respect it deserves,” mahinahon at resonableng caption ng museo.

Mabuti na lang at naayos ito ng mga restorers.

MAN WHO BROKE THE ART PIECE STILL UNIDENTIFIED

Ang insidente ay nangyari noon pang Abril 2025, pero inilabas lamang ng museo ang CCTV ngayong Hunyo, ulat ng BBC.

Nang gawin ni Nicola Bolla ang obra, dinikitan niya ito ng mga Swarovski crystals, at ipinangalan kay Vincent van Gogh.

Tribute ito sa simpleng chair painting ng kilalang Dutch painter noong 1888.

Tumanggi ang museo na ibunyag kung magkano ang presyo ng nasirang art piece, pero binanggit na ito ay “somewhat priceless.”

Nabali ang dalawang paa ng art piece at ang mismong upuan nito, ani Carlotta Menegazzo, art historian ng Palazzo Maffei.

Ipinaliwanag ni Menegazzo na may malinaw na “Do not touch” sign na nakalagay sa upuan.

Nakapatong din ang upuan sa isang pedestal kaya’t malinaw na hindi ito totoong upuan.

Binanggit din sa report na hindi pa nakikilala ang mga salaring nakasira sa upuan.
