A legal storm is unfolding between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, with both stars bracing for a showdown that has captured the attention of the entertainment world.
Initially focused on allegations of sexual harassment, the legal battle between the two has now grown into a complex dispute, featuring counterclaims, retaliation accusations, and a series of public statements that go beyond the confines of the film set.
On January 17, 2025, Justin responded to Blake's lawsuit with a bombshell of his own—filing a USD400-million defamation and extortion claim against her, her husband Ryan Reynolds, their publicist Leslie Sloane, and Sloane's PR firm Vision PR, Inc..
Justin isn't backing down from his legal battle, asserting that Blake and her team manipulated the media in an attempt to destroy his reputation and career.
His lawsuit includes several serious claims: civil extortion, defamation, false light invasion of privacy, breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, intentional interference with contractual relations, intentional interference with prospective economic advantage, and negligent interference with prospective economic advantage.
The stakes are high, with the 40-year-old actor-director's legal team stating that they have "overwhelming evidence" to support their claims.
His attorneys are fighting back with a statement that underscores their belief in the strength of their case.
"This lawsuit is a legal action based on an overwhelming amount of untampered evidence detailing Blake Lively and her team's duplicitous attempt to destroy Justin Baldoni, his team and their respective companies by disseminating grossly edited, unsubstantiated, new and doctored information to the media," said Bryan Freedman, Justin's attorney.
"It is clear based on our own all-out willingness to provide all complete text messages, emails, video footage and other documentary evidence that was shared between the parties in real time, that this is a battle she will not win and will certainly regret. Blake Lively was either severely misled by her team or intentionally and knowingly misrepresented the truth."

BLAKE'S LEGAL TEAM RESPONDS
In response to Justin's legal counterattack, Blake's legal team has lashed out, calling the lawsuit "desperate."
They argue that Justin's attempt to shift the narrative is a textbook case of DARVO—Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender.
The statement, published as is, reads: "This latest lawsuit from Justin Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios, and its associates is another chapter in the abuser playbook.
"This is an age-old story: A woman speaks up with concrete evidence of sexual harassment and retaliation and the abuser attempts to turn the tables on the victim. This is what experts call DARVO. Deny. Attack. Reverse Victim Offender.
"Wayfarer has opted to use the resources of its billionaire co-founder to issue media statements, launch meritless lawsuits, and threaten litigation to overwhelm the public’s ability to understand that what they are doing is retaliation against sexual harassment allegations."
According to Blake's team, Justin and his associates are trying to divert attention from the serious sexual harassment allegations by falsely claiming the 37-year-old actress seized creative control of the project.
They also stand by their client, asserting that the evidence will demonstrate that Blake's actions were legitimate and driven by the need to oversee the successful distribution of the film.
As the battle rages on, Blake's legal representatives continue to argue that Justin's lawsuit is nothing more than a retaliatory effort.
They claim that he is attempting to reframe the narrative and vilify Blake, rather than addressing the core allegations of harassment.
"The strategy of attacking the woman is desperate," they concluded. "It does not refute the evidence in Ms. Lively's complaint, and it will fail."

BLAKE LIVELY VS. JUSTIN BALDONI
This legal saga was set into motion in December 2024 by Blake's own lawsuit, in which she accused Justin of sexual harassment.
According to the actress, the harassment took place on the set of It Ends With Us, where Justin allegedly exhibited "disturbing" and "unprofessional" behavior.

Blake claimed that Justin and producer Jamey Heath entered her trailer uninvited while she was undressed, and pressured her into simulating nudity for a scene without prior rehearsal or the presence of an intimacy coordinator.
She reportedly felt unsafe on the movie set, hence, her husband Ryan was constantly present.
Due to the lawsuit filed by Blake, Justin has been removed from the talent roster of WME Talent Agency.
Her complaint portrayed the film set as a "hostile work environment," further alleging that Justin's actions, along with a retaliatory smear campaign, caused her to experience anxiety, grief, and trauma.
It Ends With Us earned over USD350 million dollars. However, the status of the planned sequel remains uncertain.
