Maraming netizens ang napakunot-noo sa Facebook post ng netizen na si Conrad Wu noong November 11, 2023.
“What exactly is this?” ang translation ng caption para sa picture ng menu ng isang Chinese airline, at tampok sa appetizer ang “imported dog food.”
Na-pick up ito ng iba’t ibang foreign news sites.
Ang popular explanation ng netizens ay “lost in translation” o nagkamali ang pagsasalin from Chinese to English.
Bukod kasi sa “imported dog food,” kasama rin sa menu ang Vanilla shrimp (appetizer) at Cord Dragon Bone soup (soup).
Habang isinusulat ito ay wala pang reaction ang airline ukol sa isyu.

WHY ENGLISH TRANSLATION IS BAD
Pero kung tutuusin, hindi naman ito kataka-taka.
Sa maraming pagkakataon, mapapansin ang bad translations ng Chinese characters at words sa pakete o box ng mga products na galing sa China.
Sa isang artikulo ng BuzzFeed noong 2013, inilagay ang pictures ng ilang Chinese signs na lost in translation din.

Ang isang dish sa isang menu naman ay may ganitong babala: “Fuck the duck until exploded.”
Best-seller kaya nila ito?
Samantala, sa isang discussion sa Reddit na may topic na Why are Chinese-to-English translations often so bad?
May isang commenter na nagsabing nagtatrabaho sila sa book publishing na nagta-translate ng Chinese to English.
