Ayon sa mga awtoridad, winakasan ni Cheslie ang sariling buhay sa pamamagitan ng pagtalon mula sa luxury 60-story Orion Condominium, New York City, Linggo, January 30, 2022 (New York time).
Naninirahan si Cheslie sa 9th floor ng condominium building. Namataan siya sa 29th floor terrace bago natagpuan ang kanyang walang buhay na katawan sa kalye ng 42nd Street.
Nag-iwan si Cheslie ng mensahe na ipinauubaya nito sa kanyang ina ang lahat, pero wala siyang sinabi tungkol sa motibo ng desisyon niyang magpakamatay.
Kinumpirma ng pamilya ni Cheslie ang pagpanaw ng former Miss Universe 2019 contestant sa opisyal na pahayag na kanilang inilabas.
Nakasaad dito: “In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie. Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined.
“Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host on Extra. But most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague — we know her impact will live on.”
Kabilang si Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, na housemate ni Cheslie noong 2019 sa New York Apartment, sa nagpahayag ng pagkabigla sa malungkot na balita.
“I can’t believe the news. Rest in peace angel. The world will miss your light,” bahagi ng Instagram post ni Catriona ngayong Lunes ng umaga, January 31, tungkol sa pagpanaw ng kanyang kaibigan.

Ang 70th Miss Universe na ginanap sa Eilat, Israel noong December 13, 2021 ang huling Miss Universe event na dinaluhan ni Cheslie.
Naging miyembro siya ng selection committee na kinabibilangan din ni Marian Rivera kaya personal na magkakilala ang dalawa.
