Hollywood is now mourning the death of actress-turned-interior designer Charmian Carr.

Carr was best known for her portrayal as Liesl Von Trapp in the five-time Oscar winner The Sound of Music (1965). She was 73.

According to a report by Reuters, Carr's family confirmed her passing through a statement sent to select members of the press.

She died last Saturday, September 17, at Woodland Hills in California due to complications from a rare form of dementia.

A man named Steve Hughes also confirmed the news through a letter which he posted on the late actress' official website.

He also noted that Carr's website has been handled by his family through the years.

Currently, the website won't be accessed due to its bandwidth limit.

Steve wrote: "My name is Steve Hughes, and my Company has been managing Charmian Carr's website for many, many years.

"Me and my family are so sad to have to post this message and will miss her dearly... We had the gracious opportunity to stay at Charmian Carr's house several times while we worked on different projects for her. And we traveled to New York with her on another occasion.

"She was such a nice, cheerful person. We always LOVED, The Sound of Music, and still do."

Carr was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1942.

She was 21 years old when she started filming The Sound of Music, which also stars award-winning film and stage actress Julie Andrews.

One of her most memorable scenes in the movie was her performance of the song "Sixteen Going On Seventeen" with onscreen partner Daniel Truhitte, who played Rolfe the Nazi soldier.

After her stint in the said movie, Carr appeared in a one-hour TV musical titled Evening Primrose which was written by Stephen Sondheim.

This was aired on US' ABC Stage 67 network in 1966.

A year later, Carr married a dentist named Jay Brent and decided to leave the entertainment industry. The couple had two daughters: Jennifer and Emily.

Once her kids grew older, Carr pursued interior design and established her own firm, Charmian Carr Designs, in Enciso, California.
