Pasig City First District Councilor Vico Sotto never had any hang-ups about having separated parents.
In an exclusive interview with YES! magazine’s Anna Pingol and Gabby Libarios, Vico said that he credits his mom Coney Reyes for being open about their family’s unconventional set-up.
Vico explained, “To me, parang I just grew up na ganun na lang talaga.
“I never thought na tulad ng ibang kids na iniisip nila na sana magkabalikan ang parents nila. I never thought of that.
“When I got older nga, tinanong ni Mommy, 'Hindi mo ba naisip ‘yon dati, na sana magkasama ang parents mo?’
“Sabi ko, ‘Oo nga, ‘no?’ Hindi, parang wala. Hindi ko naisip.”
Speaking about Coney’s romantic history with Vic Sotto, the 27-year-old city councilor said that he understood why his parents broke up more than two decades ago.
“We would talk about it very openly kung ano ‘yong nangyari in the past, kung ano ‘yong good, ano ‘yong mistakes.”
Vico further said that it helps that his parents have remained friends despite their failed relationship.
“Actually when I was growing up, minsan kapag may dinner kami ni Papa, kasama siya [Mama].
“Wala naman, very casual lang. Good friends naman. Very civil with each other. They respect each other.
“Siguro, ‘yon ‘yong importante do’n. Hindi man sila close or anything, pero they respect each other.”
In a previous report by PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Coney was vocal in saying that Vic has always been a good father to their son.
“One thing, he makes time with Vico. Talagang meron silang weekly date. Meron talaga silang time.
“He comes over sa house. They have dinner. Basta he’s in town, ganoon sila.
“In fairness, ha, we know that Vic is always there naman for Vico, for us.”
