The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has released a statement revealing their shock and sadness at the reported suicide of the nurse who unwittingly transferred a call to Catherine's nurse from Australian radio DJs claiming to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles, where they were provided with intimate details on the duchess' condition during her recent hospital stay.

A nurse who took a call from Australian radio DJs claiming to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles has died in a suspected suicide.

Jacintha Saldanha, a staff member at London's King Edward VII hospital, was found unresponsive this morning (December 7) at an address close to the medical facility, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 9.25 a.m. on Friday, December 7, to a report of a woman found unconscious an address in Weymouth Street, W1.

"London Ambulance Service attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the incident.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage."

2 Day FM presenters Mel Greig and Michael Christian have since apologized for the prank, claiming they never expected to get through with their "dodgy accents."

The royal family did not make a complaint against her and she was not being reprimanded by the hospital for the mistake and William and Catherine—who is now resting at home after being treated for acute morning sickness—revealed how saddened they were by her death.

The statement read: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha. Their Royal Highnesses were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha's family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."
