Toni Gonzaga clarified reports that her mom, Crisanta Gonzaga, was the reason shooting of her new movie with Robin Padilla was delayed. Tabloid reports claimed that Toni's mother disagreed with the movie's script, which allegedly includes a love scene between Toni and Robin.
"Hindi totoo 'yon. I think pinangunahan na lang ng tao, binigyan na lang ng kulay. Hindi ko alam kung kanino nanggaling 'yon, but definitely, hindi ginawa ng mommy ko 'yon," Toni told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other showbiz reporters at the launch of Eden Café 5845 yesterday, June 17, at Times Plaza in Manila.
Toni said the rumor was implausible because her mom already agreed to the script even before she did.
"Hindi, kasi even before nag-start kami ng story conference, nag-start kami mag-roll ng film, malinaw naman lahat," the TV host explained. "Napag-usapan lahat, alam nila lahat ang limitations ko, alam nila kung hanggang saan lang ang kaya kong gawin at kung ano lang yung kaya kong ibigay. And we're happy naman na we're able to set a limit. Nag-meet naman kami halfway."
NO KISSING, NO LOVE SCENES. Toni said she stands by the limitations set by her parents: no kissing scenes and definitely no love scenes. Kisses, Toni said, should be limited to only "a smack."
"The farthest I can go kasi is yung smack, ayun," she said.
Robin Padilla is said to be a lady-killer. Is Toni just trying to prevent falling in love with the Bad Boy of Philippine Movies?
Toni replied, "Hindi naman, hindi ko naman kasi... Lagi kong sinasabi yun, e, na hindi ko iniisip yung mga gano'ng bagay kasi pag inisipan mo ng gano'n, hindi nagiging maganda yung simula ng proyekto kasi hinahaluan ng malisya. So ako, sa ngayon, I'm more focusing on doing my best on the project and hopefully dun sa best na yun, ma-appreciate ng tao at tangkilikin nila. Ayun."
What about her boyfriend, director Paul Soriano? Does he approve of her new project?
"Kahit naman siguro sino kasama ko, okay lang naman sa kanya kasi nung bago naman kami nagkakilala, alam naman niya yung ginagawa ko, alam niya kung how it works in the industry. So, kumbaga, nirerespeto niya yung trabaho ko, the same way na nirerespeto ko rin naman yung trabaho niya," she clearly stated.
Toni added, "Wala siyang say kapag sa mga decisions na ginagawa ko kasi, first of all, ang mga decisions na ginagawa ko with regards to my career, may consent ng parents ko. So, alam na niya na talagang may guidance."
THE REAL REASON. Toni said the movie was delayed because its director, GB Sampedro, is currently doing a show for ABS-CBN.
"July magre-resume kami kasi may kaunting mga changes sa script and everything. So, sa July mag-i-start kami. Kasi he's working on a new show right now sa ABS-CBN. E, di ba, ayaw niya ng sabay-sabay? So, okay na rin," she said.
Toni said her character also needs to be changed in the script.
"I'm doing a show kasi na I'm playing the role of a reporter. It just so happens na the same role yung pino-portray ko sa pelikula," she said. "So, medyo merong malaking revision kasi magkakapareho talaga yung proyektong ginagawa ko nang sabay. E, paglabas nila, baka masyadong ma-compare naman, parehong-pareho."
COOKING CHORES. The event that Toni hosted celebrated unique Pinoy dishes, made special with cheese. Naturally, the press asked Toni if she loves to cook.
"Pag mag-aasawa na ako, makakahiligan ko 'yan," she answered quickly. "Sa ngayon kasi, busy pa ako, e. Marami pa kong tinatrabaho pero darating tayo diyan."
Her favorite food, she joked, are "canned foods."
However, she quickly offered a rejoinder. "Paborito namin [ni Alex Gonzaga, her sister] mga Pinoy dish, mahilig kami sa Pinoy foods. Mga sinigang, tinola, pininyahang manok... mahilig kaming kumain ng Pinoy dishes."
