What began as a routine ultrasound to check her pregnancy’s viability turned into what actress Bettina Carlos described as “the biggest shock of our lives.”
In a lengthy social media post on Monday evening, July 6, 2026, Bettina looks back on the emotional moment she learned she was carrying the twin boys.
Today, she and husband Mikki Eduardo are having the time of their lives raising two more bundles of joy: Juanito and Antonino.

Bettina Carlos discovers she's having twins
Bettina reveals the rare pregnancy came after she underwent a scan due to her history of ectopic pregnancy.
"A week after we found out I was pregnant, my OB from La Union ordered for me to have an ultrasound to check for viability (because of my history of ectopic pregnancy)," Bettina writes.
She says she and her family headed to a diagnostic center after attending church and having lunch that Sunday.
The ultrasound initially brought reassuring news.
"When the OB there checked me, she said: 'Congratulations! It's not ectopic.'"
Just moments later, however, the doctor noticed something unexpected.
"And then after maybe 2 seconds, she moved the ultrasound probe and said: 'HOLD ON PARANG I SEE TWO.'"
Completely caught off guard, Bettina could only respond: "'PO???????????'"
She immediately sent a message to her husband, who was waiting outside the examination room with their two daughters.
"Immediately, I messaged my husband who was just outside the door with our 2 girls."
The doctor continued examining Bettina before confirming there was indeed another baby.
"'Let me check if may laman.' Doc said.
"Upon checking she did see another sac with a tiny circle at the bottom right corner with an even tinier part in it flickering.
"There was also heartbeat already on the second embryo. This was at 6 weeks."
Bettina relates that the twins were conceived separately, making the pregnancy especially rare.
"Our twins were not from the same egg. In fact they were not fertilized at the same time (hence the difference in size).
"Google calls it 'Superfetation twins'. We call it a miracle."
In one of her ultrasound photos, she details how the twins were conceived 10 days apart.
She recounts the doctor's explanation: "'Nauna yung isa, sumunod yung pangalawa pero sabay silang lalabas.'"
Looking back, Bettina admitted the discovery remains one of the biggest surprises she and her husband have experienced.
"THIS WAS PROBABLY THE BIGGEST SHOCK OF OUR LIVES (by far)," she adds.
According to Cleveland Clinic, superfetation is an extremely rare type of pregnancy in which conception happens again even after a pregnancy has already begun.
The medical institution noted that the chances of it occurring are almost zero because the body naturally prevents another pregnancy once an embryo has implanted in the uterus.
It is so rare that the clinic adds: "Superfetation is so rare in humans that there are only about 10 confirmed cases.
"They’re so unique that when they happen, they often make headlines. The chance that you’ll be affected by superfetation is close to zero.
"Superfetation is more common in other species, including rodents, small mammals and fish."

Bettina Carlos says twin boys are God's unexpected blessing
Reflecting on the experience, Bettina says the pregnancy reminded her of "both God's humor and power."
"Having our twins showed me both God's humor and power—to answer unspoken desires we dont even dare pray for."
She reveals that having twins had been one of her childhood dreams, but she never seriously prayed for it because neither she nor her husband, Mikki, has a family history of twins.
"You see when I was young, pangarap ko magkaanak na kambal kasi cute. But when I married I did not even think of praying for it because Mikki and I both do not have the twin gene."
Instead, Bettina admimts that she had been praying for a baby boy.
"But in my heart I really wanted to have a boy already. And I told God, 'Lord sana po boy na.'
"And then gawa kami ulit kaagad sana boy ulit Lord para di malungkot yung boy at may kalaro siya. Pero Lord up to You.'"
She also remembers how one of their daughters, Gummy, jokingly brought up the possibility of having twin siblings.
"And then Gummy joked in the car on the way to the mall, 'Mummy what if twins?!' Which I just ignored kasi THERE WAS NO WAY WE WOULD HAVE TWINS.
"Di ko talaga pinansin yung sinabi niya."
To Bettina's surprise, she eventually learned she was expecting not just one son, but two.
"And lo and behold, we have twins and both are boys. God really did give us 2 (boys) like I prayed for and He gave them to us as twins—something I did not even pray for."
Ending her post, Bettina expresses gratitude for what she considers a miracle.
"What a miracle Lord. Wala Ka talagang limit. Thank you for our boys."
Bettina gave birth to Amanda Lucia Carlos, dotingly referred to as Gummy, on March 7, 2011.
The mother-daughter duo officially welcomed Mikki Eduardo to the family, after Bettina married him in October 2020.
Together, they received their blessing, Amina Elizabeth Eduardo, whom Bettina gave birth to on December 12, 2022.
