Leyte congressman Richard Gomez, 56, has always wanted to have another baby with his wife Ormoc City mayor Lucy Torres, 47.
Through the years, the couple had been very vocal about their baby plans—and even considered several options including in vitro fertilization (IVF)—to give their 21-year-old daughter Juliana Gomez a sibling.
On Thursday, June 16, 2022, Richard got real honest about the topic when asked by GMA News' entertainment correspondent Nelson Canlas for his showbiz podcast Updated with Nelson Canlas.
Richard revealed, “We tried. We tried so many times. Siguro we’re not fortunate lang to have another one.
"Parang siguro sinabi ng Diyos na, ‘tama na iyan, isa na muna, isa na lang, pagtiyagaan niyo na si Juliana.’"
Despite all the challenges, Richard and Lucy still feel blessed to have such a loving family.
He said, "Masaya naman kami kung kaming tatlo lang, ano lang kami tawa lang kami nang tawa.
"We talk about so many things in life, we talk about ano ba yung gusto naming gawin, ano ba yung future plans natin.
"You know, it’s a small happy family. Kaya nga si Lucy pag magkakasama kaming tatlo, sasabihin niya na, ‘Oh, look at us, our small family.’
"Tatlo lang kami, isang lamesa lang kami."

SECRET TO STRONG RELATIONSHIP
Meanwhile, Nelson also asked Richard their secret to maintaining a strong relationship. Richard and Lucy celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary last April 28, 2022.
For Richard, it all boils down to giving each other respect and giving time for each other.
He explained, "In a relationship, respect is really very important. You respect each other's opinions, you respect each other's lifestyle.
"And that you continue to love each other every day. Importante rin iyan."
Their current setup makes maintaining a strong relationship a lot more challenging.
Richard will move back to their home in Metro Manila—after spending years in Ormoc City as its mayor—since he will be working in congress, which is based in the country's capital region.
Meanwhile, Lucy switched positions with her husband and will now be based in Ormoc City after finishing her third term as a congresswoman.
Richard said, "It's really a big sacrifice on both of us ni Lucy kasi si Lucy nasa congress. She's based in Manila. Ako naman, based ako dito sa Ormoc City.
"Yung free time namin, talagang ano yun, we really have to make sure na kapag may free time kami that we come together, we see each other.
"So pag nagkikita kami, para kaming nagliligawan ulit, para kaming mga dalaga't binata.
"Enjoy na enjoy talaga ako, 'Naku. Lucy, miss na miss kita!' Niyayakap ko siya, hinahalikan ko siya.
"And even if, kami ni Lucy, we've been married for 24 years, we still enjoy being together, we enjoy going out, having dinner, watching movie together, traveling, ayun.
"We really enjoy each other's company. And then... si Lucy kasi, I really enjoy her company, I enjoy talking to her.
"I enjoy listening to what she says, kung ano ba yung tumatakbo sa utak niya, yung mga ganun."
