Maris Racal is on the mend after undergoing surgery to remove her appendix.
On August 19, 2025, the actress-singer took to Instagram to share a post-operation update—delivered with her signature humor.
She wrote, “congrats, it’s an appendix! [kissing face emoji]”
The line riffs on the classic “Congrats, it’s a girl/boy!” announcement, reminding fans of the titular role she took in Antoinette Jadaone's Sunshine, where she played a teenage gymnast who finds out she is pregnant.
Only in real life, the “bundle of news” wasn’t a baby but a removed appendix.

Maris expressed her gratitude to those who supported her during the unexpected health scare.
“Thanks to everyone who sent their love, my cool surgeon and doctors, nurses, and hospital staff for taking vv good care of me.”
She also gave a special mention to her younger sister, who stayed by her side during recovery, even if it meant spending her birthday in the hospital.
“Special shout-out to my little sister for looking after me on her birthday,” Maris added.
Despite still being in recovery, the Sunshine lead star assured fans that she’s already looking forward to bouncing back.
“Still on the road to recovery [mending heart emoji] rarampa muli~,” she quipped.

The It's Showtime mainstay has been open about his surgery in August 2024, recalling how stomach pain after a flight from Los Angeles unexpectedly landed him in the hospital.
Close friend Joshua Garcia chimed in with playful teasing, “Ayan puro kasi alak [saluting face emoji]."
Maris, quick with a witty comeback, replied, “parang ikaw yun,” sending their followers laughing in the comments section.
