Alden Richards and Bea Alonzo, two of the busiest stars of GMA-7, are known health buffs.

The Start Up couple are focused on keeping a healthy lifestyle, and it's not just to look good in front of the camera.

Bea and Alden talked to the press about their active and healthy lifestyle during the VIP night of Century Tuna Superbods 2022 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza on Friday, June 3, 2022.

For Bea, good health is her biggest motivation for keeping her mind and body in the best state.

She said, "Ako, I started working out, yung talagang halos five times a week or four times a week, even before the pandemic.

"Parang may mga tao na nag-inspire sa akin to live a healthier lifestyle. And parang nadala ko siya mas lalo nung pandemic.

"And I realized, siyempre lahat tayo maraming realizations nung pandemic, na parang, actually, yung aesthetics will just follow, e. Having a beautiful body will just follow.

"But, you know, parang main priority talaga is having a healthy lifestyle and having a healthy body."

Bea added she has been mindful of her health not just for herself, being the breadwinner of the family, but also for the people she cares for.

"Kaya nga nasabi ko kanina, I’m a breadwinner, gusto ko mabuhay nang matagal. And lalo na ngayon, we’re facing challenging times.

"Kailangan talaga yung healthy ka na kahit merong virus na lumalaganap sa paligid, alam mo na hindi ka agad-agad makakapitan because you have a healthy lifestyle.

"You know you work out almost every day, you know you eat right, and you know that you’re taking care of your body.

"Kahit man lang yun, parang, somehow, alam mo na you did your part."

ALDEN RICHARDS: MORE THAN THE AESTHETICS

Alden has been working out even before he joined showbiz, admitting his initial goal mainly was to look good.

He told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "I’ve been working out since before I entered showbusiness.

"Pero siguro kasi yung working out ko kasi when I was young was just for aesthetics.

"For the look lang. Kasi nga… sa trabaho kasi kailangan visually okay ka in all aspects, e."

The Kapuso actor also has devised his own health program, having gained the confidence after trying various diet plans, training with fitness experts, and changing his exercise routines a couple of times to achieve his fitness goal,

Alden said, "In my 11 years in the industry, I’ve been with different trainers, I’ve done a lot of different programs, parang eating habits, diet, et cetera, et cetera, parang, somehow I’ve learned to create my own sa tagal.

"And when I say I come up with my own, meaning alam ko na kung paano ko siya gagawin and paano ko kakainin yung mga pagkain na ito in a way na I don’t feel deprived.

"So parang I became my own trainer and dietician. So talagang experience din sa akin. [Alam ko na] what works for me, what does not work."

BEA ALONZO: BE KIND TO YOURSELF

Bea made a case for keeping a healthy lifestyle beyond getting a well-toned physique, but as a boost to mental health.

She explained, "Mental health is just as important as physical health.

"Parang feeling ko, kapag meron akong routine, three times, four times, five times ako magwo-workout, somehow, dahil lumalabas yung serotonin, naha-happy ako."

Serotonin, according to my.clevelandclinic.org, is a "chemical that carries messages between nerve cells in the brain and throughout your body."

Bea continued, "Kapag alam ko na I’m eating right, parang di ba lumalabas din yung ano, parang feeling mo sumusunod yung skin mo, sumusunod lahat, e.

"When you’re not eating too much junk, you’ll feel good. Parang yung mindset mo mas nagiging klaro and parang feeling ko importante yun lalo na sa panahon ngayon."

Keeping fit, she said, is one way of showing kindness to oneself, stressing that rest and sleep are aspects of self-love.

"Ako I learned to be kinder to myself. Kapag wala ako masyadong tulog, hindi ako nagwo-workout.

"Kasi yung feeling ko, yung recovery and sleep, napaka-importante in having a healthy lifestyle.

"So nagche-change yung routine ko everytime napupuyat ako because of taping. So parang, I try to be kinder to myself.

"I don’t beat myself up, ‘Oh my gosh, hindi ako productive.’ Hindi ganun, I try to be kind.

"And you know, parang mas lenient din ako sa sarili ko. I have my cheat days and it’s okay. You know, you can recover, you can eat right after.

"I think din, it’s part of loving yourself. When you love yourself, you’re kind to yourself."
