Ang lutong Pinoy na Bangus ala pobre ang nagwagi sa 2025 Embassy Chef Challenge, isang annual international culinary competition sa Washington D.C. sa U.S.

Patagisan ito sa pagluluto ng mga chefs na kinatawan ng mga embahada ng iba’t ibang bansa.

Ang winning dish ay ang kilalang Pinoy recipe na Bangus ala pobre—tinimplahang fried bangus na may kasamang ensaladang talong at garlic rice.

Nang i-serve ito, may kasamang refreshing drink na Calamansi sunset cocktail.

Ang nanalong chefs sa People’s Choice Award ay sina Paolo Peñalosa at Maria Carmel Tabligan, mga owners ng Namit Filipino Barbecue, isang snack-van business sa Maryland, USA.

Sa People's Choice Award category, ang namimili ng mananalo ay ang mga guests sa event, na ginanap sa makasaysayang Andrew Mellon Auditorium sa Washington, D.C., noong July 10, 2025.

Inanunsiyo ang magandang balita sa website ng Philippine Embassy sa Washington D.C. nitong July 12, 2025.

Sa Events DC website, binanggit na 34 embahada ng iba-ibang bansa ang lumahok sa patimpalak.

Tinawag pang “most coveted among the chef community” ang People’s Choice Award category.

Kasunod ng Pilipinas, second place ang chef mula sa sa Embassy of Saudi Arabia, at third place ang Grenada.

Ang isa pang kategorya ay ang Judge’s Choice Award.

Nanalo naman dito ang chef mula sa Peru, na sinundan ng China, at Morocco.

Ang Best Beverage award naman ay napunta sa Ukraine.

FOURTH TIME'S A CHARM

Hindi naman ito ang unang beses na nanalo ang Pilipinas sa annual event.

Pang-apat na ito ng Pilipinas.

Ayon sa Philippine Embassy website, una itong napanalunan ng bringhe (Filipino paella) dish ni Chef Claude Tayag noong 2016.

Sinundan ito ng sisig dish ni Chef Abigail Sincioco-Mateo noong 2018.

Ang pangatlo ay ang chicken inasal dish ni Chef Erwin Villarias noong 2022.

Ani Chef Paolo: “This victory is a celebration of our heritage and a tribute to the rich culinary traditions of the Philippines.

"I am proud to showcase our flavors on such a wonderful platform. Thank you to the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., for selecting us as their representative.”

Sabi naman ni Chef Carmel: “Winning the People’s Choice Award of the Embassy Chef Challenge is a victory for every Filipino who understands the power of food to share our story and bring Filipinos, Americans, and all nations together."

NOOD KA MUNA!

Si Chef Paolo ay lumaki sa Bacolod City at nag-aral sa International School for Culinary Arts at Hotel Management sa Maynila.

Bukod sa Pilipinas, nagtrabaho rin siya sa Singapore at Palau bago siya lumipat sa Maryland, USA.

Si Chef Carmel naman ay isang pastry chef sa Maryland. Graduate siya sa Howard Community College.
