To meet the growing demand for halal food among Muslims, a new food brand has been launched at the Grand Ballroom of Crowne Plaza, Ortigas, on November 27, 2024.

The term halal, meaning "lawful" or "permitted" in Islam, is the opposite of haram, which signifies "unlawful" or "prohibited."

When it comes to food and beverages, halal refers to items prepared in strict accordance with Islamic dietary laws, ensuring they meet the religious standards.

During the event, a panel of Muslim leaders and educators highlighted the significance of halal food and serving the needs of the Muslim community.

Here are some of the key takeaways:

“Sa pagkain at pag-inom natin sa ating lugar, lalo na dito sa Philippines, alam naman natin na majority ay non-Muslims. Hindi mga Muslim ang karamihan sa mga nagpo-produce ng kinakain.

“So isa sa mga pinakamagandang initiatives na ginagawa sa ating mga kapatirang Muslim ay pagsasagawa ng ganitong mga actitivity at mga ganitong companies, na kung saan binibigyang focus ay magbigay ng halal food sa mga Muslim.”

The panel underscored that halal, as taught in the Quran, signifies "pure and clean" and is deeply connected to their spiritual practices.

The limited availability of halal options in supermarkets was also brought up.

As a matter of fact, there are very few food companies that offer authentic and certified halal food.

HALAL FOOD PREPARED THE PROPER WAY

AlBarakah CEO Ameerah Tamundong said she knows first-hand the challenges of sourcing halal food and ingredients in the Philippines.

“My fellow Muslims and I didn’t always have the easiest time adhering to our own dietary principles.

“We wanted to eradicate that problem for all our fellow Muslims by providing an easily accessible source for great tasting and healthy halal products.”

Tamundong also mentioned that contrary to general belief, halal food is not exclusive for Muslims.

“Good food is one of the universal languages of the Pinoy experience.

“On top of ensuring gratification of my fellow Muslims, we also hope to offer new and flavorful options to Pinoy foodies on the look-out for delicious meals.”

The brand offers a diverse range of products, including its premium canned corned beef.
