Glaiza de Castro is happy to get the word out that she's been learning how to cook and, hopefully, an expert one.

After all, she and her husband, David Rainey, have this penchant for exploring different cuisines and experimenting with various dishes.

Gaiza tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in this exclusive interview how it gives her good feeling that David is also a food tripper, and, like her, is willing to try any dish.

"Even yung salad, different takes on salads., different takes on pasta...

"Merienda, sapin-sapin, Filipino or Irish, or Japanese, Korean, like, I’m very adventurous when it comes to food kasi.

"As long as it’s food, as long as it’s not poisonous, edible, healthy or not healthy, ita-try ko siya.

"Like yung friends ko would see that as weird kasi parang, ‘Ang weird talaga ng taste mo.’"

LEARNING HOW TO COOK

But has Gaiza ever cooked for David?

"Siya talaga yung, I think yung influence ng interest ko ngayon sa food compared to before, is because of him.

"Kasi mahilig siya magluto."

Gaiza explains that David grew up around family members who are culinary experts.

"Sa family kasi nila, yung parents niya, and then yung sister niya even published a book about baking, so talagang experts.

"So nakakatuwa na through him, hindi lang ako nagiging mas interested sa food, pero mas curious din ako, and also excited, looking forward to make him food, to cook for him."

NOOD KA MUNA!

But for now, "Pinag-aaralan ko pa, e," she says.

"Nag-ta-try akong mag-save ng mga recipes and then wala pang masyadong time kasi talaga busy, kasi work din siya, e.

"Di ba, especially, if you’re not familiar sa kitchen, dati hindi man lang ako naghihiwa."

Gaiza says it was because she entered the entertainment industry at a young age, and no one in her family seemed to be into cooking.

"Kasi parang before, ang aga ko rin kasing nag-start sa showbiz, di ba, so from then on, parang yun na yung naging focus ko.

"And then yung family namin isn’t really into cooking.

And so far the only dish Gaiza has tried cooking, "Wala, mga pasta pasta ganon.

"Minsan yung siyempre dahil nga nag-experiment ako when it comes to yung sauces, medyo nagfe-fail ganon. So ending sayang yung food."

BAKEN FAVORITE

Glaiza was among the several celebrity guests who attended the launch of the world's first all-bacon snack brand, Baken, on March 4, 2023.

During the event, she lauded the brand's efforts to add bacon in snack foods.

She said, "Mahilig kasi ako mag-snack, so siyempre pag nasa taping,di ba, pagka nag-aantay, ganyan, na-excite lang ako kasi nung tinitignan ko yung account nila parang, ‘Wow, they’re giving bacon a new twist, a different twist.’ So very excited ako to be here."

The Kapuso actress was ivited by close friends.

"Sobrang ang lapit ko lang dito so sabi ko why not? And I needed wine so sakto naman.

"And yung food, when it was presented to us in different ways, parang ano, parang, ‘Ah okay, andami pa palang, sobrang ano niya, sobrang versatile ng bacon pala."

The menu for that night consisted of peta cheese mousse and bacon crisp cornetto, truffle mousse and bacon jam cornetto, pizza tarte flambee with bacon bits and arugula, crostini, pan seared foie gras and bacon jam, vanilla bacon cookie ice cream topped with raspberry sauce and crisps.

Her favorite? The bacon cornetto dish.

"I love the bacon cornetto, yung may truffle, may mousse. It’s a different take, e," she said.

"And I like na meron silang twist, may calamansi twist, kasi may ano pa rin, kumbaga may Filipino element pa din."
