Happily settled now in her probinsiya life, Bettina Carlos proudly wrote on Instagram that she has been coming up with yummy meals for husband Mikki Eduardo and her daughter Gummy.
This month, the small family got to enjoy a festive boodle fight or a fun eating experience in which the actress-host laid out different dishes on banana leaves.
She also invited everyone to eat with their hands.
The family feasted on grilled liempo, baby pusit in garlic, shrimps in garlic and oyster, chicken adobo sa gata, and slices of mangoes for dessert.
The servings were for five people and her total expense, sans the cost for their soda drinks, amounted to only PHP500.
On regular days, Bettina said she's been making lunch and dinner for four people on a budget of only PHP120 to PHP200 a day.
She mentioned their breakfast of malunggay pandesal, eggs, and three-in-one coffee only costs PHP15 per head.
This combo—pritong GG and sinabawang tahong—only cost PHP200 for four.
She shared a palengke and cooking tip: "Pag ayaw sumara ng tahong pag hilaw pa, deads na daw so tapon na. 3-4mins cooking time lang din."
Exulted in her newfound skill, Bettina proclaimed in one of her posts, "AT gumagaling ako bilang budgetarian!"
She elaborated, "Lunes at biyernes lang ang palengke... new local recipes to learn to make (nagpakbet at poqui-poqui ako this week. Next week try ko naman dinakdakan at dinengdeng)...
"mas marami kaming gulay na nakakain... 85% fish and vegg versus red meat...
"isa lang ang kalan ko at wala kong food containers so dapat ubos lagi ang luto... cute ang ref kaya di makapagstore like my usual load pag sa Manila...
"at kada meal freshly cooked... freshly baked din ang pandesal from the neighborhood bakery..."
Reflecting on their change of lifestyle in the province, Bettina wrote: "Simpleng buhay. Nakakapanibago. BUT a beautiful and welcome change. Challenges accepted and embraced.
"Big room for growth. More opportunities to exercise thankfulness. Salamat Panginoon sa grasya at gabay [praying and heart emojis]
"Thankful to the husband for this decision."
By the way, this is her husband's favorite dish, Dinakdakan.
Mikki cokked it himself.
Bettina has been living in La Union for a month now, and, according to her post yesterday, April 28, 2021, the move will most likely be permanent by "tail end of this year."
