In a blaze of cultural splendor, the national costume competition of Miss Grand Philippines 2023 pageant unfolded, captivating the crowd with a fusion of heritage and haute couture.

The Preliminary Competition and Charity Gala Night, held on July 8, 2023, at the Grand Ballroom of Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, unveiled the national costumes donned by the 30 candidates.

Amidst this vibrant display of fashion artistry, 11 stunning ensembles took center stage, etching themselves indelibly into the minds of the spectators.

MISS GRAND NORTHERN SAMAR

Miss Grand Northern Samar, Maria Gail Devora Tobes, mesmerized everyone with her national costume inspired by the Agta Festival.

The grandeur of the occasion was captured through the radiant symbolism of gold, reflecting the significance of religious and cultural celebrations in the country.

Held annually in Bobon, Northern Samar, the Agta Festival pays homage to the black image of the Holy Child Jesus, and unites participants from various municipalities of Northern Samar.

MISS GRAND SAN LEONARDO, NUEVA ECIJA

Bea Fajardo, representing San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija, demonstrated a delicate and feminine number inspired by the rice fields that dominate the region.

With meticulous attention to detail, the costume titled "Butil" paid tribute to Nueva Ecija's status as the Rice Granary of the Philippines.

What's interesting was that Bea trended on social media during the fashion show, as she rode on top of a real-life human dressed as a carabao, symbolizing the traditional farming practices and the hardworking spirit of the Novo Ecijano people.

MISS GRAND ANTIQUE

Charie Sergio, the stunning representative of Antique, graced the stage in an awe-inspiring costume titled "Luyana's Timeless Beauty."

Influenced by the Legend of Caluya, the front side of the costume depicted the clear skies and abundant sea, while the back displayed the famous Tatus, a coconut crab known for its delicious meat.

The skirt ingeniously transformed to reveal the modern Caluya—a representation of responsible mining.

It also featured flaps made of solar panels to show the province's stance on clean and reusable energy.

Remember that in 2020, the provincial board banned the construction of coal-fired power plants.

MISS GRAND URDANETA CITY

Faith Heterick, the representative of Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, stole the spotlight with a Pinnaglakwan Festival-inspired costume.

The festival, which celebrated its inaugural edition earlier in the year, illustrates Urdaneta's economic stability and community resilience.

Faith's ensemble also paid tribute to the city's famous Giant Carabao, a bronze statue affirming the city's status as the "cattle capital of the Philippines."

MISS GRAND PASAY

Resalina Toledo, representing Pasay, celebrated the iconic jeepney as the country's national vehicle.

Jeepneys are not just a mode of transportation, but also a representation of the common Filipino folk's livelihood.

Her national costume featured the hood of the jeepney, the city's routes, and traffic lights.

One of this pageant's most highly anticipated contenders, Nicole Herlene Budol, from Angono, Rizal, wowed the crowd when she embodied the Pearl of the Orient Sea with her national costume.

It was designed by Marbin Garcia, who used the shades of blue with hints of pearl.
