Lucy Torres-Gomez is a proud outfit-repeater.

Unlike other celebrities, the Ormoc City mayor does not consider it a major faux pas to be spotted wearing the same outfit twice.

"Because clothes are not meant to be disposable," the 47-year-old actress-turned-politician explained in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

She continued, "If you buy things that are disposable, it means that quality is not good or the cut is not nice or the style…

"You shouldn’t buy clothes na after isang suot itatapon mo na, kasi nagutay na siya or it doesn’t really fit you."

Lucy said she has always kept a practical mindset when it comes to buying clothes, which is why she often goes for sustainable fashion.

"I think it shows how nice a piece of item is, if you can’t let it go. When you see yourself using it many, many times, over and over again.

"And then, you can just keep on dressing it up or down or changing the accessories."

And for people to maximize their wardrobe, Lucy advises to only get pieces that make them look and feel good.

She said, "I think para siyang [clothes] kaibigan. Kilalanin mo yung katawan mo. Dapat malaman mo kung ano yung bagay sa iyo and then dun ka lang maglaro.

"Kasi hindi naman lahat bagay sa iyo e, di ba? Hanapin mo lang yung bagay sa iyo."

PEP.ph caught up with Lucy on the second day of Bench Fashion Week 2022, held at the Playground of Bench Tower in Bonifacio Global City last October 1, 2022.

DESIGNER HER OWN COLLECTION

Lucy's inclination to sustainable fashion is evident in her latest collection for Kashieca, which debuted on the runway during the event.

She told the press, "If people buy, I would want people to wear it many, many times in many different ways. So it’s a…smart buy."

The pandemic played a big role in Lucy's creative process for her collection.

She explained, "The fact that we realize we don’t need pala so many things. Kasi during the pandemic, like ako, I can count in two hands, the clothes I wore during the entire two years.

"Like during the day, I would just be wearing dresses and kung favorite siguro, two pairs of pants ‘tapos I just keep on [repeating] them."

The result was a collection of classic and wearable designs.

She pointed out, "Dapat talaga when you open your closet, whatever you pick, it will look good on you. Para dressing up is easy daily.

"You don’t have to spend 30 minutes just choosing an outfit. Whatever you pick, it should fit."

Lucy further noted that she wanted the clothes to be comfortable and easy to wear.

"I just like them to feel comfortable and easy. It’s easy-wearing. Nothing complicated. I believe that once you put on something, you shouldn’t fidget anymore.

"Dapat kalimutan mo na talaga yun. That’s why the fit is important, the cut is important, the quality is important."

And she also takes pride in noting that the skirts she designed have pockets in them.

She said, "So you can put your cellphones, your mask. Especially after the pandemic, you carry so many things! You carry your sanitizer, your mask.

"I just like knowing that there are pockets, ‘cause you can’t bring in a big bag all the time."
