Napakasuwerte ni Chef Jessie Sincioco dahil hindi lang niya nakadaupang palad si Pope Francis nung magkaroon ng papal visit sa Pilipinas noong 2015.

Nakasama pa niya ito sa loob ng apat na araw dahil siya ang inatasang maging tagapagluto ng breakfast, lunch, at dinner ng Santo Papa.

At sa period na ito, araw-araw daw siyang nakapagmano.

ATTEMPTED TO SERVE POPE FRANCIS PINOY DISHES

Binalikang-tanaw ni Chef Jessie ang kanyang once-in-a-lifetime opportunity sa interview sa kanya ni Bernadette Sembrano na in-upload sa YouTube noong March 17, 2024.

“My days were really focused on preparing his meals for the day,” panimulang kuwento ni Chef Jessie

Nabanggit din niya na sa proposed menu, tinangka niyang ipatikim ang Filipino dishes kay Pope Francis.

“So sabi ko, ‘Pagkakataon ko na. Isisingit ko yung adobo, sinigang, bulalo… yung mga Filipino dishes na talagang gusto nating ipagmalaki.”

Isinumite niya ang ginawang menu sa apostolic nuncio o ang diplomatic representative ng Papa.

Iminungkahi nitong palitan ang menu “and serve something that is familiar to the Holy Father for fear that he might develop stomach upset.”

Tumalima si Chef Jessie.

Bagamat, nabigo siyang maipatikim ang putaheng Pinoy sa Santo Papa, masaya naman si Chef Jessie sa mga dishes na inihain dito.

Sabi niya, “I was so grateful naman that everything I cooked for him, he liked everything.”

Nagpasadya pa raw siya ng uniform na may nakasulat na “I ‘heart’ Pope Francis” na napansin at ikinatuwa mismo ng Santo Papa.

Ibinida rin niya ang ipinadalang ripe mangoes noon sa Vatican para kay Pope Francis.

Ipinakita ni Chef Jessie ang liham na galing sa Papa na pinapasalamatan siya sa ipinadalang mangga.

“He was able to receive it and he wrote me a letter personally signed by him,” sabi ng chef.

“Kaya yung mga bishop, yung mga pari, naiinggit sa akin. Sabi nila, 'Ikaw talaga, pag ikaw, siya pumipirma. Pag kami sinusulatan kami, yung sekretarya lang ang pumipirma.’”

CHEF JESSIE's HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Sa ngayon ay may five-story building na si Chef Jessie sa Makati, ang Chef Jessie’s Place.

Nagsisilbi itong school para sa mga tinuturuan niya at meron itong functions rooms for events.

Di raw talaga niya lubos maisip na makapagpapatayo siya ng gusali.

“I came from a poor family in Bulacan. Tatay ko talaga farmer, he ploughs the field,” ani Chef Jessie.

“Both my parents, hanggang elementary lang sila. Pero ang nanay ko, the best mom for me.”

Naniniwala siya sa divine intervention at matibay ang pananampalataya.

Nakapag-aral daw siya dahil kinuha siya ng kanyang tita.

“Part of God’s plan,” sabi ng chef dahil sa dinami-rami ng pamangkin, siya ang naging paborito.

Pagdating naman sa trabaho, aminadong istrikta si Chef Jessie.

“You cannot be otherwise, kasi kapag hindi, hindi mo madidisiplina ang mga tao, e.

“Do not settle anything less than the best. Kailangan pag ginagawa niyo ang trabaho niyo, do it the best way you can. I cannot settle for anything less than the best.

“Diskubrehin niyo kung ano talaga yung gusto ninyong gawin.”

Ikinuwento niya na dapat ay sa isang bangko siya magtatrabaho.

Pero habang hinihintay ang job opening, sumali siya sa isang baking contest at siya ang nanalo.

Aniya, bahagi pa rin iyon ng plano ng Diyos para sa kanya.

“If you’re happy, you’re in the right place. Do your best na lang,” payo niya.

At higit sa lahat importante raw ang pagiging maka-Diyos. Mahalaga raw ang pagiging madasalin.

“That’s our direct link with God. Kasi ako, whenever I do anything I consult with God.

“Talagang when I pray, talagang I can see God’s directions whatever in anything that I want to do, most especially those crucial decisions.

“Wag natin pababayan ang relationship natin with God and He’s always there for us. Most of the time talaga answered prayers.”
