REGINE VELASQUEZ, OGIE ALCASID SHARE LESSONS FROM THEIR 14 YEARS OF BEING TOGETHER

Saad ni Ogie, "The 14 years that you've been married to me, what is something that perhaps you've learned?"

Tugon ni Regine, "How wonderful it is to be married to someone that is your best friend, who has the same interest as you.

"Meron ding mga hindi. Kasi di ba yung mga romance-romance, eventually that will fade.

"It will fade and you're left with really just being good friends and companionship.

"You're left with that. So, it's wonderful to be with someone who's your best friend also."

Sabi niya, "I've also learned that, kasi di ba I'm a breadwinner.

"I don't have to have that mentality anymore because I really am not a breadwinner anymore.

"It's not a bad thing."

Sabi naman ni Ogie, "We are very proud of the breadwinners.

"At tulad nung natutunan natin sa And The Breadwinner Is..., ano para sa sarili mo?"

I've said that before.

"Natatapos yun, because you need to have your own life.

"As I was saying, you need to allow your partner to be responsible to you because that's his job.

NOOD KA MUNA!

"You need to allow them to do that. Men are responsible for women."

Natatawang sagot ni Regine, "Same, same lang. Same, same lang.

"Ah, you mean sa family? Once you get married, dapat matapos na yun.

"Of course, you help every now and then, but your main priority..."

Sabat ni Ogie, "O bigyan ng ano?"

Pagpapatuloy ni Regine, "Ng ikabubuhay nila.

"Teach them how to fish. Don't keep giving them fish.

"Kasi dapat iyan, once you get married, your main priority should be your wife.

"Because your wife, of course.

"You literally... You know, getting that woman.

"Oo, at may basbas naman. So, you are responsible for that woman, for that person."

Pagpapatuloy ni Regine, "So, ayun, yung mga breadwinners diyan, babae o lalaki, let's just ano, parang... gusto namin kayo i-remind that natatapos dapat yung responsibility na yun.

"Otherwise, you know, your family will forever..."

Sabat muli ni Ogie, "Depend on you."

"Parang ganun yung dating mo. No.

"You have to have your own life."

REGINE VELASQUEZ REMEMBERS MOM TELLING HER OTHER SIBLINGS, "She has to have her own life."

Aniya, "I remember her telling my siblings, that's why they grew up like that, tama, independent.

"I mean, if they need help, of course, I will help. And they would ask me naman.

"But so far, they're all good.

"My mom used to tell them, 'Hoy, si Ate, hindi iyan forever magtatrabaho para sa atin, ha? Mag-aasawa iyan, ha?' Kailangan niyong pag-igihan yung pag-aaral. Hindi iyan forever.'

"And she would constantly remind my siblings na, 'She's not gonna be working for us for all her life, ha? She has to have her own life.' She tells them.

"Kasi akala niya, I'll be alone.

REGINE ASKS OGIE: "Are you happy with me?"

Sabi niya, "Are you happy with me? Are you content being with me for 14 years?

"And do you have any problems with me?

Sagot ni Ogie, "Am I happy with you? You know, I view happy as a very temporary feeling.

"So being happy is like a momentary feeling. You're happy, you know.

"Nanalong Lakers, you're happy. Flat yung stomach for that day, you're happy.

"But I think what I experience and what I feel being with you for 14 years is joy.

"I equate that with joy because joy is spiritual, it's not only just I'm happy, I'm ecstatic at the fact that we're married.

"No, I am extremely thankful, grateful. And that is a joyous feeling that I feel here.

"And that's what motivates me, that's what moves me, that's what inspires me to be, as the millennials would say, the Gen Z's would say, I'm not sure if it's a Gen Z thing, the best version of myself.

"And you can only do that, you cannot muster enough strength to be able to do that on your own if you don't have the seed.

"And the seed that I have is joy that emanates from... from being with you.

"So it's not just a momentary thing, it's a constant state of mind and heart that I experience.

"What's your other question?"

Ani Regine, "Do you have any problems with me that you think I need to improve on?

"It's a valid question."

Birong sagot ni Ogie sabay tawa, "I think there are a lot.

"But I think we'll never be, we won't be corrected anymore.

"Come on, we're in our 50's. There are probably little things that you want yourself to be corrected for and it's only if you want to as a spouse."

Sabat ni Regine, "Ay naku, minsan ang babae, sasabihin niya, 'What do you think it is that I need to improve on?'

"Tapos pag sinabi mo kung ano yun, we get mad.

"Women think we're perfect. But not me though, I'm okay."

Pag-sang-ayon ni Ogie, "But you know, it doesn't matter to me.

"They're just little things.

"Ganoon yun, e."

Ayon naman kay Regine, "And vice versa. Kasi sa totoo lang, wala namang perfect.

"If you think you are so imperfect, well your spouse is also thinking the same thing, that he's so imperfect."
