People often debate whether it's better to keep things simple or follow a detailed routine, whether in beauty or self-care in general.
But Maris Racal offers a refreshing take: why not do both?
In an exclusive email interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) coursed through SNAILWHITE, Maris highlighted that self-care is personal, and our routines should align with our individual needs.
She personally prefers simple routines for her daily life and opts for multi-step routines on days when she needs extra care.
Maris told PEP, "I like a mixture of both, but most of the time I just stick to classic and simple routines."
She added, "It depends on the day. Some days you need just the basics. Other days, it’s a full ritual with candles and music."
MARIS RACAL: SELF-CARE
Maris typically leans toward a simple skincare routine, but she often experiments by adding new elements to her regimen.
One technique she finds particularly beneficial is Gua Sha.
For those who may not know, Gua Sha is a practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine that involves gently scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool to enhance circulation.
Maris said, "I only follow a simple and basic routine, but there’s one simple thing I added to my routine, and that is applying the products by using the Gua Sha technique with only using my hands.
"I also like to think skincare routine as my form of meditation."
In addition to facial care, Maris also emphasizes the importance of body care. Her preference for a simple routine on her face is mirrored in how she cares for her body.
When asked about her body care routine, she said, "Moisturizing, always. My skin is naturally dry, so lotion or body oil is a must, or else I feel incomplete."
Maris continued, "I start with a gentle body wash, then I follow up with a moisturizing lotion. SNAILWHITE products are the best for me!
"I've been using them for months straight now and my skin feels so much better."

MARIS RACAL: BEAUTY REGRETS
But before trying new routines or products, Maris stresses the importance of thorough research.
She ensures that she understands what the tool is used for, or examines the ingredients, to make certain that it won't harm her skin.
This was a challenging lesson for Maris, stemming from a beauty regret she experienced a few years ago.
Maris remembered jumping on the Aztec Clay mask trend for a while, but unfortunately, it didn't go as planned.
Aztec Clay masks are known for their ability to absorb excess oil, control acne, shrink pores for a smoother look, and manage inflammation to reduce redness.
However, many people experiment by mixing these masks with other products, like apple cider vinegar, which can be quite irritating for those with sensitive skin.
Maris tried this combination, and it went awry, becoming one of her biggest beauty regrets.
"I remember I used to do that trending Aztec Clay mask with apple cider vinegar," she recalled.
"I did that to my face and I included my eyebrows. It went crazy."
Maris definitely learned from the experience and hopes to share this advice with everyone.
She said, "I always check the ingredients and go with products that align with how I want to feel—not just look. If it’s clean, nourishing, and backed by people I trust, I give it a try."
But as for her ultimate advice, she said, "Honestly, girl, drink more water!!"
