Dealing with acne and stretch marks

While many believe pregnancy naturally gives women a radiant glow, Megan admits that wasn’t the case for her at first.

One of her biggest pregnancy skin concerns was acne, which she managed with patience and proper care.

“Noong una, hindi ko pa na-feel yung pregnancy glow. So totoo na lang, medyo pregnancy un-glow siya para sa akin,” she confesses with a laugh.

“I really felt haggard in the beginning, na parang I didn’t feel like myself. My skin was really dry.

I started getting a bit of acne in the beginning so I did not feel my best self during the first trimester.”

She continues, “Nagkaroon talaga ako ng acne and pimples in different areas—sobrang laki!

“My number one tip: huwag mong i-pop yung pimple mo ng sarili mo kasi baka ma-infect yun.

“So one thing that you don't want is ma-infect yung mga sugat. My doctor was very strict about this, kasi mahirap ipagamot later on kung magkaroon ng infection.”

For stretch marks, Megan hasn’t seen any yet, but she has been proactive:

“So far, wala pa naman ako stretch marks.

“Kasi since I found out that I was pregnant in the first month, gumagamit na ako ng body butter," she explains.

“So, as in, talagang mino-moisturize ko siya nang todo-todo, kahit OA na sa paglagay ng body butter, okay na yun.

“But, sabi talaga ng ibang friends ko, nung eighth to ninth month na daw nila, saka lang lumabas ang stretch marks.

“It's something that you can't really control because it just happens to your body.

“So, for me, my mindset is expect na baka magkaroon ako because my body is changing.

“But at the same time, I'll do my best that I can to keep my skin moisturized and protected just in case magkaroon ako.”

MEGAN'S SKIN-CARE ROUTINE

Things took a turn for the better in the second trimester of Megan's pregnancy, thanks to a trusted moisturizer.

She details, “Noong nag-second trimester na, medyo bumalik na sa dati ang pakiramdam ko.

“I had a skin-care routine that I trusted, and that I could really count on when it comes to taking care of my skin, especially moisturizing. Kasi sobrang nag-dry yung skin ko noong nabuntis ako.”

On days when fatigue kicks in, Megan keeps her skin care simple but effective:

Cleansing

"Cleanse your skin on a daily basis. Medyo nag-oily din yung skin ko now. Combination ako dati pero ngayon, mas nag-oily siya for some reason. So, I have to make sure na I cleanse especially before I go to bed."

Moisturizing

"Moisturize dahil yun nga, sobrang nag-dry yung skin ko and I started getting dry patches in different parts of my body. So I just wanted to make sure na ma-moisturize siya."

Using Sun Protection

"Use sunscreen para maprotektahan ang skin mo pag lumalabas ka ng bahay. You have to protect your skin especially when you're pregnant because parang may mga sun spots daw na lumalabas. So, it's prone to discoloration.”

Her preferred products? Megan Beauty’s Sunflower line.

She reveals, “These are the products I use and suggest, but of course, always check the ingredients to see if they work for you.”

Megan's message for expecting moms

For pregnant women struggling with body image or new skin concerns, Megan suggests consulting a dermatologist and researching pregnancy-safe ingredients.

She advises, “Consult with a derma if you're really concerned about these things or may mga lumabas na out of the usual.

"Or, check out pregnancy-safe ingredients na puwede sa iyo. Kasi I think that's the most important, that is the most cost-effective way.”

She mentions retinol and salicylic acid as no-nos.

"Hindi daw puwede, sabi ng multiple doctors, ng OB ko, at mga derma na kinokonsultahan ko rin.

So retinol and salicylic acid talaga yung ina-avoid ko na dalawang ingredients. And then, I just make sure to stay on the safe side and not mixing.

Megan continues to embrace the changes that come with pregnancy while helping other women feel confident in their skin.

Her aim is for every woman—pregnant or not—to achieve that natural glow.

Megan married Kapuso actor Mikael Daez in an intimate and low-key wedding, in two ceremonies: one in Batangas on January 10th and another in Subic on January 25th, 2020.

On December 6, 2024, Megan and Mikael announced that they are expecting their firstborn—a baby boy.
