Having a sensitive skin can be disconcerting as it is to most people with this condition, more so for female celebrities who must wear makeup regularly for their work.

This is a reality Sofia Andres has been living with, revealing even that makeup in fact is the primary stressor for her skin.

Sharing her personal struggles with sensitive skin, Sofia tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that she faces the constant challenge of managing her sensitive skin as it needs extra care and attention.

She says, "Alam mo naman, di ba, we're always in the limelight, always with makeup, photoshoot, on set, everywhere."

This chat between Sofia and PEP.ph happened during the launch of the Aveeno Calm + Restore skincare line on Monday, September 16, 2024, in Makati City.

SOFIA ANDRES: DISCOVERING HER SKIN

With sensitive skin, Sofia understands the importance of consistency in her skincare routine.

Even missing a day or two can cause rashes or redness.

This is why Sofia is dedicated to her regimen, ensuring that she strictly sticks to it, "I'm not gonna risk it," she remarks.

She stresses, “It's really important to have to take care of your skin, number one yan.
“Even with or without makeup, it has to be healthy, smooth, and young-looking.

"If you have your holy grail na, you have your skincare set, stick with that.

"Because we don't want to experiment also.

“Because that's risky, that's dangerous."

Sofia cautions against experimenting with different skincare products, as it can lead to issues like rashes and redness.

Sharing her personal experience, Sofia recalls, "I tried a lot of products. I'm not kidding you. But, you know, it's trial and error."

The Kapamilya actress adds, "I think I placed something... before, I was younger. I wasn't aware of what I'm putting on my skin. Ano lang yung trending, right?

"So, it got really red, itchy. So, I'm like, okay, I'm never doing this again.

“We cannot always, like, apply makeup to cover it, right?

"So, we have something dapat na... It's reliable and worth it."

This experience has also turned Sofia into a "less is more" type of girl when it comes to skincare, relying only on the basic steps and products that work for her.

Her current at-home skincare routine consists of Aveeno's Oat Gel Moisturizer, Nourishing Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30, Re-Hydrating Night Cream, and Triple Oat Serum.

She tells the press during the event, "Aveeno brought Calm & Restore in the Philippines, which I'm really, really happy about because it's gentle, and yet it's super, like, incredibly effective. You'll notice it."

SOFIA ANDRESS: YES TO SELF-LOVE

Sofia acknowledges that there are days when she feels less confident than usual, despite sticking to her skincare routine.

"If you're not feeling confident, you know, one secret. Pray.

“Aside from all that skincare, pray. Very powerful."

Having other ways of practicing self-love also helps.

She enumerates, "So aside from doing that, I go to derma, I work out, sauna, release the toxins. I'm really all for that."

While some may think she's overdoing it, Sofia is firm in her belief that practicing self-love in any form is perfectly fine, even if it earns her the label "maarte."

"I'm really passionate about taking care of yourself," she said.

"I don't care if they call me 'maarte'... you know... It's self-awareness. We're giving very mindful."
