Andrea Brillantes doesn't give a hoot about body-shaming comments.

These days, the detractors are nitpicking her slender arms, she partly ttributes to Barbie Arms—a non-invasive procedure designed to eliminate persistent fat in the upper arms, resulting in a more scultped look.

"Yung mga sinasabi nila na OA, it’s because I lost almost 20 pounds," she clarifies.

"Lumiit na siya because of what I did with Belo, but I also lost a lot of weight.

"It’s not because nagiging sobra ako sa mga pinapagawa ko. I also lost a lot of weight overall."

This was openly discussed during Andrea's contract-renewal signing with Dear Face on July 18, 2024.

OWNING HER BODY

When faced with a barrage of criticisms about her body, Andrea says that being at peace with how she views herself is what ultimately matters.

The High Street lead actress continues, "Sa mga nagko-comment po ba about my arms? I really don't care.

"It’s actually crazy, for me, ha, it's crazy that other people think that they have the authority or the right or that their opinion matters to me, their opinion about my body.

"Parang kailangan ko siyang ‘Ay, sabi ni username ganyan-ganyan, wag ko raw...’

"Everything that I do for my body is for me kasi pagka gising ko, ang nakikita ko sa salamin, sarili ko. Hindi naman si username chuchu di ba?"

Thanks to her self-assuredness, Andrea is not bothered at all by people who think her arms are disproportionate to the rest of her body.

"Aware ako sa sinasabi nila, pero di ko siya pinapapasok sa akin kasi ginagawa ko kung ano yung magpapasaya sa akin and I'm really happy with my body right now.

"And gets ko yung mga sinasabi nila na medyo hindi proportionate or whatever.

"Well kasi I can't control if God blessed me with blessings," she playfully adds, while adjusting her tube dress.

"And, you know, I lost weight na nga, e, kasi parang aminin ko na parang I have a large chest. It's not a large chest," she tries to retract.

"Pero like kasi I'm a bit small. I'm 4'11" so gets ko sinasabi nila, pero wala akong magagawa kundi I just have to own it.

"I just have to own kung anong bigay sa akin ni Lord, and I'm really happy with it."

As a confident young woman, she proudly expresses: "So alangan naman papatanggal ko siya dahil lang sa comment sa akin ng mga tao? No!

"Tatanggapin ko lang kung anong meron ako, and I'm really happy sa katawan ko.

"Kung hindi okay para sa kanila, ang pinaka-importante naman at the end of the day, kung paano ko tignan yung sarili ko, and I am really happy with myself."

ANDREA DEFENDS MOMS FROM BODY-SHAMERS

But what really strikes a nerve with Andrea is when netizens demean her by comparing her body to that of a mom.

She doesn't care about the comparison itself, but she does take issue with the body standards they impose on moms.

"Ang weird lang na ginagamit nila pang-body-shame ang "katawan ng nanay" na parang, alam niyo yun, nababasa ko na parang, ‘Grabe, parang nanay na si Andrea. Yung katawan niya parang ganyan’

"That's so embarrassing to say. That's so embarrassing for you like talagang magko-comment ka, like, you're body-shaming your mom.

"So yun lang yung parang sinasabi. Gusto kong sabihin na maganda katawan ng lahat ng kababaihan.

"Hindi dapat ginagawa pang-body-shame ang katawan ng nanay kasi dun tayo nanggaling," she says with conviction.

"So, for me, hindi yun pangba-bash. Parang ang weird non, hindi niyo dapat ginagawa.

"Parang hindi niyo nirerespeto ang mga nanay niyo and ano naman."

To prove her point, she mentions her very own mom, Belle Gorostiza.

Andrea concludes: "Ang kung ginagamit nilang pang-body-shame ang 'parang katawan mo na parang mom,' parang, have you seen my mom?

"Have you guys seen my mom? My mom is in her 50s and she's fit and she's hot and she's sexy!"
