Philippine National Red Cross Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon (shown in CNN screen grab), in partnership with Viber, will be launching Sagip Tawag, which will set up relief communication centers in key typhoon-stricken cities in the Visayas.

To help address the communication problems in the hardest-hit provinces, messaging and calling application Viber has initiated its #VIBERHELPS campaign.

Launched on November 11, a temporary call service has been set up so that Filipino users can make free calls to regular (non-Viber) numbers outside the Philippines.

The project was made possible by other foreign telecomunnications companies—Israel, China, Japan, and Austria, to name a few—which have willingly volunteered their free local termination services.

Viber CEO Talmon Marco said, “We are releasing this in an urgent manner due to the local crisis in the Philippines.”

Viber Out is further strengthened by Globe, which now enables free calls to its mobile numbers.

SAGIP TAWAG. On-site, Viber partnered with the Philippine Red Cross and the AFP Public Affairs Office (PAO) to create relief communication Centers in key cities and various priority typhoon-stricken areas, where 100 Viber-ready Mobile phones and online tablets and laptops can be used by the affected families.
