Shaina Magdayao is pretty. And she always makes sure she’s pretty all the time.
The 17-year-old star of the defunct fantaserye Rounin is very meticulous about the way she looks—and that goes for her nails. “Medyo maarte-arte talaga ako sa nails,” she says. “Doon mo makikita, e. Lalo na sa lalaki—pag mahaba ang nails, parang hindi naman maganda tignan. Unless gitarista, kasi naman understandable. Pero kung mahaba ’yong nails, ’tapos madumi—turn-off naman ’yon, di ba po?”
The kikayness runs in the Magdayao family. That’s why they decided to establish their own salon, Ystilo. The branch at Berkeley Square, on Tandang Sora, Quezon City, is owned by Shaina. Aside from the usual haircut and hot oil, Ystilo offers nail art service, where women can have their nails decorated in various colors.
Shaina explains the family decision to set up a salon of their own: “Lahat kami, gustong nagpapa-hot-oil, particular sa hair. Kasi, all girls po kami, di ba? So, sabi namin, ba’t hindi na lang tayo magtayo ng salon e lagi naman tayong nasa salon? Pag nastre-stress tayo, lagi tayong nasa salon. Pag may free time tayo, lagi tayong nasa salon. So, why not build a salon, di ba po? Kaya namin naisipang gumawa ng Ystilo.”
